well, i found out why my car detonated and blew the engine. i had gone to my buddy's house to hang out and then go get cigarettes.(no i do NOT smoke in the supra!) as i'm on my way to d.e. i stop at a sonoco to get gas because they had ultra 94. i told the guy to fill it up with ultra, got a recite and left. went to de got smokes then went back to my other buddy's house. he wanted to feel the power so i took him for a short ride. boosted up to 1.4 bar in 2nd and i look in my review mirror and there is nothing but smoke. i shit my self, drove it home and later that week did a comp. test.0 psi in #1 127 in #2 then normal after that. i think i might have cried too.
so any way as i was installing my speedometer yesterday i look in my glove box and find a recite, from sonoco. i look at it and it says regular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:die: :die: :die: the stupid fucking piece of shit put regular in my car!!!!!! worthless fucking cocksucking cunt mother fucken idiot!!!!:die: :die: :die: :die: :die: :die: :die: :die: :die: :die:
so some reject cost me 11k for a new built motor for their negligence. lesson learned, always get out of the car while getting it filled up! stupid n.j. for not letting us pump our own gas! and i know i should not have boosted to 1.4 bar on pump, it was only for about 3 seconds tho. never again!!

im with blacksupra93 i would contact a lawyer and see were you could stand since you cant pump your own gas it says right on the fuel filler hole premium only for dumb shits that pump your gas.

That's a bad story. Sorry to hear about that. Sometimes I really feel they pay these stupid asses too much - even at their measly hourly rate they get now.

Wow, that sucks. Sorry to here it. I had one fo the idiots in NJ fill my Supra with regular and then turned to my buddy on the other side who has a fully built Integra and do the same thing when he asked for Ultra. I was kinda nice about it, being in public and all, but my buddy went ballistic. First off he only asked for $10 just so he could get it back to the shop after messing around on the highway so he could put C16 in it and the guy filled it. He made the place give him 6 octane boosters for free to put in the tank and then made them give me 6 also. Was real funny, but i felt stupid for talking to my friend instead of looking at the pump to be sure.

sucks. i pump my own gas they usually dont say anything to me. im too impatient to wait for those idiots most of the time. never use sonoco gas ever again, i ve had tons of problems with the 94 before

Damn that sucks man. If some idiot told me i cant pump my own gas i'll be like fuck that shit. Can i assume that your APU? if you are then i dont think you got a chance on winning any case. Reason being they can blame any of the upgrades you did as the thing that cause the end result and not just their gas. Even though we all know that he was a fucking idiot that put 87 in your Supra.

Man..... this fucking sucks to the max.. ill eb fucking pissed asnd sad for months to come... if you cant gain anything out of that station cause of maybe your mods or not enought proof etc... i would like go put the place on fire or something.. brake all their windows or someshit... i know its dumb but you gotta relieve anger somehow.. thats what i would do... but try and fight that bitch, and if your APU and still have stock twins, swap it back for a hwile, 10hrs worth of work for a fighting case in which your more likely to win if yout not modded, is better than 1000hrs worth of work to replace everything.. Goodluck bro

That's what I feared. Of all the things I did to my car - 71GTQ/1000cc/Head porting/etc etc etc - AEM is the one thing I refused to do for just this reason. While it has it's limitations, having the stock ECU default to pulling timing when conditions go south is something I would never give up. Especially when the MAP ECU 2 has the ability to alter timing, which to me is the largest benefit of a standalone over a piggyback. Yes, we all know the stocker alters closed loop timing with larger injectors, but that's a headache I'll chose to deal with.

Just my .02, but no matter what I hope the car comes back better than ever! :bigthumb:

That is a pretty dumb law? What is the reasoning behind it?

Steve
I'm not sure if it's exactly a "law" or not, but NJ is a full service gas station. On top of that, we probably have one of the cheapest $/gallon in the nation :) .

im with blacksupra93 i would contact a lawyer and see were you could stand since you cant pump your own gas it says right on the fuel filler hole premium only for dumb shits that pump your gas.
Gas attentants don't read the thing nor do they care. If they hear regular, super, etc, that's what they put. I usually double check when they press the button to check on the grade of the gas being pumped.

Thats a case you SHOULD be able to win with no problem if you have the receipt.
I wouldn't go that far. There's nothing he can prove if there's anything to be proven, and any judge is stupid to even hear this case. There are many factors determining a blown motor, and who's to say the gas was what did it (and with the timeframe).

ya i was wondering why they wont let you pump your own gas. thats odd.

That sucks!!. Go figure Jersey. What will they do if you pump yourself? I have pumped myself in jersey and I was wondering why everyone was looking at me like I had 25 heads, but this is the exact reason I jumped out and pumped before the douche came and tried himself. I didnt want cheapo gas in my Evo. After I pumped I paid the guy and took off but they did look dumb founded lol.

This same thing has happend to quite a few Evo owners in Jersey

wow....that blows i guess i will be paying attention when they fill the supra from now on.....

it might be a little hard to fight the case now cause it happened in october...but hey you never know....i mean you have a witness and evidence sounds like you have burdens of proof to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. clear and convincing evidence, and preponderance of the evidence.

sounds good to me you should contact a lawyer, "hey you never know"

Lol calm down there champ this would be a negligence case, not a criminal case. So the last burden of proof you mentioned would apply, that is by a showing of the perponderance of the evidence. It's a less strict standard and flows on a matter of persuasion. You'll have to prove duty, breach, injury and cause.

Also, since it's Jersey law that attendants, not customers, do the pumping, there may be a matter of negligence pro se (I don't know for sure because I haven't checked the books on this law). Negligence pro se is the breach of a duty established by a statute. But then again, there comes a question of the typicality of such an injury from such a breach.

If you can get your hands on those tapes, you still have a lot of work to do. You'll have to prove they were the ones that actually did the pumping, that they breached, by pumping an inapprorpriate grade, a duty to pump the premium, and that it was in fact this specific incident that was the proximate cause of the injury. They also have a few defenses themselves. To me, this sounds more than steep as there are still more proofs to be made than the ones I just prattled off. But again, anything any of us say here is mere conjecture. I'm not an attorney and if you want a better and qualified opinion goto one :)
