Okay,so my girlfriend and I bought a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9
its brand new, it had 400 miles on it when we got it,and now it has 4,444 miles
and it started grinding into 3rd gear,the car is bone stock,never been raced,i barely drive it,its more her car than mine
so she took it in to the dealer we got it from,and they said they pulled the trans,they said the reason its grinding is the gears are not alinged correctly,and that the clutch was burned out completely,and they would not warranty it!
So she went down and threw a shit fit,and shes on her period,so shes very pissy right now,she bitched at the GM in front of all the potential customers,lol
And all they said they could do is charge her 50% of what a new clutch costs,which is still $500
well we have been planning to get rid of the car,shes tired of shifting and not having crusie control,but we got fucked with a market adj add on of $5k,so we are upside down now

Bummer man. sorry to hear about your problems. seems like they should warranty it.

a clutch is not warranty. its one of those parts the buyers are responsible from, bot the tranny however is under warranty.
are you saying the tranny 3rd gear is messed up and the clutch is worn away? I'd say if they're paying for 1/2 a clutch that's good. if the trans is wounded that should be covered under warranty but I'm not surprised the clutch is toasted with a girl driving it.
damn bro that sucks. dealerships will do anything to get out of warrentying something. i cant believe even bitching at them in front of potential customers didnt make them break. hope this ends up working out for you man

exactly my point, hes lucky they are not asking for the whole amount for the clutch

Chicks + Manual = the sweet smell of burnt clutch. And im sure the evo idea was more yours that hers. Pay to play.
i realize clutches are not covered under warranty,but i have owned over 30 vehicles, and most of them being manual transmission,and have NEVER in my life seen or had a Brand New Clutch burn up after only 4,444 miles
hell my truck has 200,000 miles and I just barely put a new clutch in it,and I am the orginal owner,bought it brand new,its a Toyota
Ive come to the conclusion that Mistubish drivetrains are worthless!
It was not my idea to get the Evo,it was hers,i wanted a Lexus IS350 :)
The DSMs ive owned all had drivetrain problems!
I hope Mitsubishi goes under one day!those fucks can suck my left testicle!
i guess it depends on where you go....I remember with my cobra some dealers would say something was my fault because the car was modified(TOB was squeeling and i had an aftermarket shifter on the car), then i just say fuck it, and go to another dealer and they didn't care and fixed it.....

it just depends on where you go...I would suggest just going to another dealer and getting a second opinion.

I think your girl needs to learn how to use a manual. By the looks of that clutch, I wouldn't be surprised if she jacked 3rd gear. It doesn't take much to kill a syncro. Once that's gone, the gear and hub ring aren't too far off.

i know a few ppl with evo8 and evo9s and the clutch is the first mod lol

but yeh....def suxs ass.......cool ur chick had the sense to take pics....

u def gonna have to sit on the car for a lil to see any return.....keep it stock and low miles and you should get right side up on ur loan soon enough
That's bullshit. A clutch disk is a wear item, but 4K and it's gone? Fuck that. I used to be a Mitsu tech and we got cars with burnt out disks all the time and warrantied them. It's actually Mitsu's fault, the stock disk is not rated for the power the Evo makes. They bank on the fact that people will go after market shortly after buying the car. I wouldn't pay a cent. Unless you were racing it, or she is EXTREMELY bad at driving stick, there is no way it should look like that after only 4K of daily driving.
So have you been with your chick in the Evo when she drives? Can she drive a manual car without slipping the clutch like SOB every time?

Clutches don't wear themselves out. Your girlfriend needs an automatic car.
My Evo just passed 65k miles and I'm still on the stock clutch.

Just because you claim that it's never been raced doesn't mean it hasn't been abused.
When I had my 05 Evo VIII I was getting water leaking on the drivers floor. I took it in with 6,000 miles on it to see what was wrong. They said my seal on the front windshield was defective but it was my fault because the top portion had tint on it!!! After arguing with them I ended up having to pay $90 in labor. But my clutch was still strong when I sold the car with 18,000 miles and putting down 308 WHP.
