GE head on a GTE block

14832 Views 46 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  kbprice
Ive got a blown block. I know its possible...i am likely going to GTE block, GE head, GE 5spd tranny, turbo.
Is there anyone here with a GE head on a GTE block? Any suggestions?

There are a number of people with gte blocks on ge heads(mostly is300 people) Is there something wrong with your current block? Are you going to build the gte block with aftermarket components? What is "blown" on the gte block?
Yeah I have heard of a few people doing that, met one in person yesturday, and it was an IS300 as racing fan mentioned, but it wouldnt be any different for us, that kills the compression issue right away.

Not really....Teh ge and gte head aren't the same size afaik and it kinda throws it into a whole other issue.... Hopefully I can get a na head measured soon and have some numbers for everyone....
Zo, definitely waiting for someone to cc the GE and GTE heads, i'm thinking the GE head has only a slightly smaller chamber but solid numbers would be good.

I have a spun bearing in cylinder 6. I dont know how it happened...
My warranty company (got a warranty with my car for 2yr/24k) is willing to give me up to like 3200...i can get a TT shortblock for dealer price, and then turbo the biatch...
I am going to keep the GTE block stock, put a TT head gasket and head studs, and then do valve work on the GE head.

What about electronics...would i have to worry about ECU? i am 96 obdii, so get a 96 obdii block right? Tranny mts are the same also right? I am prob going to be doing this within the week...i will keep everyone updated.
I was trying to keep it on the low, but i will post full story in a couple of hours.

I have CCed the GE head. The chamber space in the GE head is approximately 42cc.

NFI with regard to the GTE head.
gte head is 40cc.... I'll run the numbers to find the cr on a gte block, gte hg, and ge head tonight or tommorrow...
42+7.8+14=63.8

499/63.8=7.82:1 cr with a gte shortblock, 1.6mm stock gte headgasket with 1.35mm squish
whoa whoa...very confused.
Explain this with out math....im not that car-knowledgeable...yet.

Zo,

Nice work! I can appreciate someone who knows how to manipulate the numbers. :) Not only that, your math requires no checking. 7.82:1 sounds right with a 14cc dish with the GE head.

BTW, I'm going to contact Arias and see if they'll fabricate a 2jz piston with a 6cc dish. That would put the C/R at about 8.5:1.

P.S. Are you ever in Dallas. If not, I wouldn't mind making a trip to Austin sometime.

We got some custom dish pistons made through Ross recently.. Came out very well and they were great to deal with. My friend also got some custom cp pistons made and they came out good as well.. I have ross/ stock gte, and arias at the shop and I've been wanting to weigh them... I'll try to do that in a bit.

I'll be in dallas over winter break visiting some family and friends... I'll be sure to let you know:)
yeah, i have the GTE bloack with the GE head as well. obviously i didnt do it myself but havent had any problems and the guys at the shop said everything pretty much lines up
ok, TRD Supra11...what do i need to do this?
I am getting ARP head studs (how do you install the TT ones on an NA). What head gasket? Everything lines up no problem? You are NA-T right? What boost are you running? I want all the details...this is getting done (GE w/ GTE block) next week to mine, and i need to make sure all my shit is in order.
thanks man
OK, so this is the deal.
My warranty company is being all messed up and doesnt want to pay the real cost of things (jackasses). I dont have time to spend a month or two without a car to fight them with a lawyer, so i am going to just deal with what they give me for my spun bearing.
So this is what is happening to my car before the end of the year:
GTE block,
GTE head gasket,
ARP head studs
SAFC II
RPS 6puck clutch
Fidanza Flywheel
TRD Engine Mounts
Walbro Fuel pump

I am also purchasing now:
Street imports FMIC (the bigger one)
Greddy Profec B Spec2
Greddy Turbo Timer
Oil Lines

Hopefully, I will deal with the slow ass lower compression block for a tops 2-3 months, and will get DaveHs kit in Jan/Feb to turbo in early March.
Now the questions:
For TRDSupra11: what am i gonna need to do to make this work?
How slow do you guys think my car will be with the lower compression? Maybe down 30-40 rwhp?

All help is....uh...helpful. thanks again guys.

While everything is apart and off the car why don't you go ahead and port and polish the head and put in some new springs and retainers. That will give you a jump right out the box.
becuase i cant afford it. I am eventually gonna do crower springs and retainers, crower regrind cams, ferrea valves, and Titan gears.
I want to atleast do springs and retainers, and regrind cams at the same time...i need cash for that first.
Good sugg. though...already on my mind.

Springs and retainers are much easier to do when the head is off. $365 for Crower springs and titanium retainers from Horsepowerfreaks. Just got mine in ;) .
i have been in contact with the guys at Crower...i talked to them after i saw your post, and am starting to heavily consider it...
I might do jus springs / retainers.

with a crower spring / retainer kit, is anything else needed to install?
