Hi

Dont think it was me because I'm not sure what REs are :) I was going to try and get some Linear Power amps but decided on these HCCA ones instead. I should get my 225 HCCA in a week or 10 days. I ebay'd that one.

Well what I'm trying to do now is figure out what small subs I can use. Small being either 6.5" or 8". High power handling is not an issue, but ability to play deep bass in a bandpass is what I need. This will be tough. Time to visit www.partsexpress.com LOL.

I'm not sure about RE subs in a bandpass but they make some great 8" subs

www.reaudio.com

I run an SE 12 and it's more than enough power for me.

Good choice on the Orion amps. The old skool HCCA and XTR series amps are awesome. They sure don't make em' like they use to. The best is still and will always be the RF Punch 200's and the Punch Power 500 Mono. Best amps anywhere!

Its funny but I've heard some systems recently and everyone seems so concentrated on SPL and not caring about sound quality or the quality of the installation. Its kind of sad. Back in the day, it was not at all like that. Maybe I have not looked in the right shops. But I do agree though, those old Fosgate and Orion amps are very good. I currently have a 4x60w Punch DSM (old OLD oval one). Its really good too but I had to have red amps :)

I bet if you take it to most audio repair shops, the'd be able to fix it. Most amps seem to blow up in the power supply section from what I've seen anyway :) BTW what the hell are you doing with an amp that strong!! :)

Hi db specialist. Well I had to dig long and hard to find it. The 250 HCCA I found sitting at a local stereo shop in their install bay area in a cabinet. It had been pulled from a customers car and sat in there for a year. It wasnt even for sale because they thought nobody will want an amp that old. I paid $300 CND for it. Its mint on the inside - never repaired. It does have quite a few nics and scratches but nothing big...only if you look quite close. Other than that, its great.

The 225 HCCA I grabbed off ebay from a lady who was going through a divorce. I paid about $180 CND for it with the manual and everything. Its in very good shape except for two scratches on the side fins. Again, inside its mint - never popped or repaired. I test it as well and works great.

These amps are very hard to find. I looke for a while to find them. I see a lot of the newer stuff with the xover or even newer, but not the old school ones. I'm glad I found them.

I might also be getting a hold of two old canadian made wavelength amps as well. A pair of 2x75w units. They are more similar to the orion SX series but look cool because of their chromed appearance.

Speaking of old school amps...I bought both of my Orion amps brand new and they have been sitting in the boxes for a while now. I have recently got them out and here are a couple pics. The pic of the purple NT 200 series of Orion is not all finished in the pic, but it was the only one that I could seem to find.

Anyway, here are a couple pics:

Poor quality image, but this is a nighttime shot...looks much better in person:

NT200 when everything wasn't quite finished:

Great stuff :) I always loved the older orion stuff. I also liked Linear Power and Zapco at the time but I was always partial to the Orions even though I had heard that the Zapcos had the best sound but I think we're getting into such a fine line that its not a point to argue :)

The amps are eventually going into a late 80's to early 90's notchback mustang 5.0 that I plan to buy and build up... so stereo cant be very big. I'm probably just going to run a set of nice doors and a pair of 10" subs in a sealed enclosure. Dont want to weigh things down too much ;) I mean I wont have gobs of HP like you supra guys - shotting for around 350 rwhp out of a N/A 331 stroker. I've also been thinking of a 96 cobra with bolt ons but that wont be as fast ... I could always put an underdriven Novi blower on that stroker down the road to compensate for the added stereo weight :)

Thanks.

It took me about 3 weeks or so to complete everything and that was mainly because of the following:

I have built boxes before, but I am not the quickest...I take my time to make sure everything is done right. This makes everything more reliable and no break down of the system.

A 12" sub had to be centered in the car...I don't like subs when they are off to the side.

The targa still had to fit even with the monitor up there, the box itself getting in the way (curves had to be built for this to work and this meant a LOT of measurements took place;) ) and also with the 12" sub sitting in the center of the hatch.:) This last paragraph was the biggest headache of all guranteed.;)

I sold one of my boxes that I built for the back because it wasn't going to work perfectly for my monitor and the way I wanted my amps setup. I could reproduce the heart of the box that I have in my car now if anyone wants...I have everything written down. The box will fit a 12" sub, or below and the targa will still fit. Just PM me or e-mail me.

Take Care
