Hi all!

I’ve been doing some research on FMIC for my supe.

The majority of peeps on here recommend the Greddy 3 Row as apposed to the HKS type S (Includes all piping, overflow tank etc etc.)

Although I don’t mind paying the extra money for it I am slightly worried that it is around 50% larger than the Type S, and I’m only running Stock Twins.

I don’t plan to go single but I do intend on raising the boost up to around 1.1 - 1.2 soon.

So, to my question: Will there be a considerable amount of lag with the 3 row compared to the type s because the 3 row has more space to fill up with air? or will it not be noticeable at all?

Also will the 3 row fit with my oil cooler still in position? I know that the type s does but wasn’t sure on the 3 row?

Thanks all.
Scott

I ran a 4row on stock twins without problem. When you go single, and the stock twins WILL blow, then the 4row has better piping.

I agree with BLKMGK. I had a 3-row on my stock twins and loved it, but when I got a single I moved up to the 4-row due to better piping. FWIW I live about a mile above sea level so I was really spinning the crap out of the turbos.

Valid points and thanks for your reply’s but you both have manual cars don’t you?

I have an Auto, which is why im pretty sure I will stay on stock twins for the future.
I don’t want to go too big if my twins can’t utilise it! Im already worried that 3 row will create too much lag, let alone going for a 4 row!

Cheers lads.

I had the same dilemma, but I knew I was going single eventually. I bought the Type-S and have never looked back. I have a high stall converter and plan to install a BL PT67P turbo kit. I bought the Type S kit from a guy on here. It came with the overflow tank, PS relocator, all the Tbolt clamps and shipped for under 1000. They say it maxes out at 550rwhp, but I don't buy it. Several people have pushed way more then that. Hell, I have seen guys push that much or more on a stock sidemount. I would recommend either for your application.

i would really like the 3 row but i am not sure if the piping will pass the oil cooler (auto trans cooler) on the passenger side.

i am also worried about the extra lag compaired to the type S as the 3 row is about 50% larger apparently.

Cheers

HKS type-S is smaller than Greddy 3 row (more like a 2 row). HKS type-R is the same size as the Greddy 3 row. Greddy 4 row is over 6" deep!! and at priced better than the HKS type-R.

SP made like 830 RWHP w/ an auto and a SP88 through a type S. I'd imagine heat soak may become an issue with an S with a larger turbo, but never with stock twins. I'd buy a type S if you were going to keep your car mild and are on a budget, you can find a used one cheap.

The 3 row is the best IC for the money, but if you are going to stay on stock twins, the Type-S may be a good option.

sward42,

I would be suprised if it got in the way. The 3 row pipe stays pretty far out and clears my tranny cooler. Of course I don't know how the OEM trans. cooler is mounted. If you have any pics, I'd be curious to see them.

why is the 4 row piping better can the three row piping not be changed?
The 4-row routs the pipes under the fender and then up to the turbo. This works very well for single turbos. The three routs it up throught the fender like stock. The only real negative about this is it typically requires a sharp bend at the compressor outlet. The two cores are similar but the 3-row has about a 20degree bend in the passenger side. This makes fitting 4-row piping on it difficult....if you can find a set.

That's a pretty good deal. HKS doesn't supply an overflow tank or T-bolt clamps.

I have a type S on a sp71 and made 700rwhp. But My next upgrade is a 4 row. I belive the S is perfect for a stock twin car. But the cooler the charge the better so physics dont lie. If I hade it to do over again I would have bought the 4row . But I never expected to go single either!!!!!

3 Row on my stock twin auto car. No increased lag to me. Put down the #'s in my sig and times w/ it. I personally, am not a big fan of the type s, as I just don't care for the look of it, the end tanks look too small, and the overall size. But, that's what makes the world go round!

my main concern was that the type s doesnt come with everything it needs for a perfect fit.

from your replys i am personaly tempted by the 3 Row.
If what you say is true 'Caughron' and there is no incresed lag then thats one worry out the window, what boost are you running on your twins?

I just hope it fits as my trans cooler is in stock location.
'VeilsideTT' do you know if your trans cooler is in stock location still?
