I have a greedy oil catch can that a friend gave me. It is brand new, should I use it? I was thinking about installing it but don't know if it is good or bad. To my knowledge a catch can collects oils instead of recirculating it through the intake. If anyone has knowledge on the catch can fill me in.

oh boy, here we go............

i dont believe in catch cans, only proper crankcase ventilation is necessary, which can/is done without a catch can and if you are pushing that much oil from your car, you have other issues. now, might i say that better ventilation is needed on a drag car or something pushing much more boost...perhaps...but certainly not on a street car. this is also not considering all of the BS you have to do in order to run a can, at least properly. all the fittings, lines, BS running everywhere. to me, its just an unneeded clusterf*ck

but this is just my lowly opinion

Thanks for the reply, I guess I will let it sit for now. If you ventilate the crankcase, is that a totally different concept in terms of what the catch can does?

what do you mean? the venting is essentially of air, not oil. so therefore, nothing more than a filter should be needed. here is my vent.....................

will your car push some oil out, sure, but enough to install a can, me thinks not. but as i eluded to earlier, this subject seems to be quite opinionated, not sure why, but you will hear as many people who dont believe in them as do. in the end, do whatever makes you comfortable. if you dont mind the extra work, fitting, lines, routing, and other BS, then there isnt much of a downside to it. i kinda find this last statement to be kinda sarcastic, no disrespect intended to you personally.

If you do decide to run the catch can, you have to install baffles. I don't believe that the Greddy can comes with baffles, but I could be wrong. Just hooking up an empty can is definitely a waste of time. You need to have something in there that causes the gases to condense causing the oil to collect.

I don't think even Greddy catch can is baffle, most cans out on the market is just it an empty can so it defeats the purpose of having one if you intend to use one. There is a few out there that is baffle after some searching. I ordered one from Saikou Michi (wanted to try it out), they make real baffle catch can and can customize any way you want. To the op, just make sure your factory pcv is functioning correctly and everything else is running well and like previously said the amount of oil that is going to collect in the can is minimal.

every motor has a certain degree of blowby .. forced induction even more so and on our motors absent perfectly done and fresh rebuilds (even those would have some).. if you dont believe me next time you are bored , remove the upper intake plen. look down into the runners and you will see deposits of pure oil , not just residue but actual oil which is bad for us for that deposit will cut down the octane of your fuel .. everybody down here in south florida that i have challenged to remove their intake found these deposits .. since i have done a full catch can setup i have zero oil/residue in my intake tract , i see zero smoke and i pull more vac at idle which promotes good ring seal

I took apart a Greddy can, there was nothing inside it. Completely empty.
