Hey, I was wondering what parts/set-up you guys used to fit/make your 35r set ups work. I mean manifold, spacers, oil line kits/bends. Did you have to clock it-if so, how much? Where did you buy the turbo from and how much did you pay
(trying to shop around for the best prices)? I cannot start buying parts and pieceing this thing together yet...My motor isn't in the bay yet(just finished the engine bay painting as a matter of fact). Any and all information would be handy. Thanks again.

same as any other single conversion. Nothing speacial needs to be done with the GT35R other then the coolant lines.

a GT3582 is the perfect turbo for a 1jz. here is the math to prove it.

PRessure ratio = 2.22
CFM = 617.381 Origional = 278
max mani pressure = 45 psi (less pressure = more hp)
Airflor needed for 450 hp = 47.44 lb/min

Necessary boost pressure = 19.6
(17447088.8 / 508725)-14.7

New pressure ratio = 14.7+19.6-14.7 = 2.33
New CFM = 647

Gt3582R

use the airflow # and pressure ratio necessary for 450 rwhp and look at a compressor map you can see that for a street car the gt3582R is the way to go. I dont see the need for over 400rwhp in a street car, and the lag would be basically non existent with a gt35. Im not saying a gt40 would be super laggy, but the gt35 can do the job on the street.

anyhow...pirates ;).. You didn't need to raise it up or lower it, or clock it to get the oil return just right? That's what I'm looking for. Also, I know it's watercooled as well for the BB cartridge. Any insight on that aspect?

My brother has a GT35 on his H23, its barly a 2.3L and its making 508whp @ 21psi. This on a near stock head. I would imagine the results would be similiar on a 2.5L 1jz. Also Kurt Brown the famous DSM driver personally told us that the GT35 doesn't come alive until 30psi. He says that the differance between 30 and 28 is huge, and if your not going to run atleast 30psi to go with a smaller turbo. This is coming from someone who has broken tons of records and continues to do so in the DSM world, very stand up guy and deffiently knows what he is talking about. Just some information for you guys to think about.

Ive changed my set up now, my supra is going to be my street/drag car and ill be getting/building an sc300 W/1J GT35 when i get home and drifting that... Im sure ill take out the mkiii and drift her a little, it will just be long fast drifting...You make it sound like its going to be impossible to drift with a GT-40 comeeee on now?? Have you tryed it?

The GT 35r looks like a nice match for the 1J though..:)

A GT-35r can definitly hit 700 on a 1JZ with better spooling characteristics.

This is exactly why I choose this turbo :bigthumb:

the GT3582rl (bb cartridge turbo) is rated for 640 crank
the GT35 (Journal bearing turbo) is rated for 510 crank

These are #'s from Garrett

Wheres pictures of the carnage, i wanna see how bad it is. i fucked up a turbo a while ago cause the turbo sucked in a piece of coupler and it chewed up the blades... still boosted 9psi though.
