Gt40r 67 ?

OK,

I am needeing a bit of help from you US turbo gurus...

I am currently running a Boost Logic 67P trim kit with a .68A/R on my car and I want to change the turbo over for a water + oil cooled turbo possibly a DBB version as well.

I have been pointed in this direction and told that a nice setup would be a Garret GT40R 67..

I am running a stock engine with a Motec M800 ecu.. Only thing is that the engine is a VVTI... GTE version I think its called....

What do you guys think of this turbo and how will it differ from my current setup ? Im running 20-21 PSI on pump gas 99 RON over here..

Im pretty sure we have different petrol ratings in the UK to your ratings in the Us...

The real reason for doing this is to get a bit more HP 50-75 ? and torque.. I might even be able to lower the PSI / BAR but its unlikely as my car is running well on the current setup

Any ideas what sort of numbers he is getting?

I just need something that is going to chuck out more power.. I have become more hungry for power while thinking about it.

My friend is using a Sound Performance 71 and he has scary power.. Id like to be in the same arena and possibly have more!

I would suggest going for it , I saw this turbo in action at Moroso for the Nopi event that recently passed on a 2.0L honda motor, making 760+around 32psi with a .68 backhousing ! Imagine what you could do with your 3.0L (Keep the .68 A/R if you like your spool the way it is now !)! I personally spoke to patrick at precision and this is the exact same turbo he suggested for my goals which are similar to yours as i will be better off using a vvt-i 2jz-gte for my aristo swap ! Do you have any dyno graphs of the 67p-tim on your vvti-motor that i could take a look at because I want to see how that turbo reacts compared to the guys using ti with non-vvti 2jz's ! LMK !

This GT40R turbo.. is the actual turbo bigger than my BL 67 or around the same size?

If its around the same size how can it make this much more power...?

Daniel can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the GT40R has a 63.4 mm inducer, not a 67mm.
In terms of performance, I have this turbo on my car and I love it, it made about 5 more peak hp than my old T66. In terms of powerband, with a lot of changes to my setup (manifold, 4 in dp/exhaust, WG) I was able to increase area under the torque curve by 20% by switching from the T66 to GT40R with the same boost pressure.

Ok, a couple things to comment on. The first being that the GT40R as it comes from Garrett has four turbine housing A/R's available (.85/.95/1.06/1.15). Latteboost is using the smallest of these, and made 650ish at something under 30psi (IIRC). To run this turbo over 30psi (on a 3L) you will really be pushing it. You will just run out of compressor map.

There are a couple GT40R's out there. The newest of which use a 63mm inducer as Latteboost said, but these will flow just as much as the older 67mm wheels. In my opinion I would start with the 1.06 A/R housing and move down if needed. This should get you in the 700rwhp range at 30psi, but that's about all this turbo really has to offer. If you want more...GT4294R. Just take a second to really figure out your goals.

I originally started big-ish (T72) and made over 800rwhp, but never once used it. I'm now going to a GT40R because I don't really ever intend to use leaded gas. This limits me to ~26-28psi. Will you ever use 800hp or is it just the number you're after?

The GT40-67 is different from the GT40 you guys are referring to.

GT40-67 is a GT turbine section with a 67 compressor wheel. This turbo is actually only supplied by Precision Turbo I believe, as it is their variant. It is a true 67mm compressor inducer, so comparable to a T-67 in power levels. It just recently came available in a ball bearing version as well. Power output should very similar to a 67GTQ or something along those lines.

The Garrett GT40 has two different sizings. One is a GT4082 and the other a GT4088 (note the 82 and 88 are the designation of the EXDUCER on the compressor wheel, that's why it's a significantly larger number). Like a few others mention, these will not make as much power as the 67 version.

If you are looking for more power, I would deifnitely go with the 71, as the GT40-67 is not going to make a significant different from your current 67.

The more and more we talk about this the more I think Im going to go down the 71GTQ turbo route...

I dont think I can warant spending that sort of money to get almost the same as what Im running already!

Didn't "Onelove" make 624rwhp on the Precision GT4067 on 18-22psi on pump gas, running AEM , 264 cams, valvesprings/retainers with VW intake manifold. .81a/r. Stock head and block. I thought those numbers were good enough, but if not. The 70 and 71 are also available, perhaps someone should be sporting the 70 or 71 S Trim more often because not that many run it. :)

I was unaware that precision offered a GT40R-67, with my turbo I have dyno'd just shy of 500 whp at 18 psi. The 27 psi run was with 100 octane. Daniel is correct, the compressor map is just about to reach choke with the 3 liter at 27 psi.

Daniel, you going to Vegas this year, I would like to finnally get a chance to meet you in person.

Maybe I misunderstood you ! I have been waiting to see some more numbers also but the turbo I was referring to that made 760+ on the 2.0L honda was a Precision version of the GT40R with a 67mm comp wheel and GT40R exhaust wheel , their new combo which was used on Central Florida Turbo's car ! Sorry if I misunderstood which version you were talking about ! Also the 71gtq is a bad ass turbo and I 've seen it make 800+ rwhp myself, so it would be a great step up from the 67 you have now ! Hope this helps !
