I'm thinking about upgrading turbos to something more suitable to my needs and have considered the GT4294R.

For anyone that has this turbo can you tell me how much boost your hitting at 4k RPM and with which Exhaust housing?

Whats the most power you've made with this turbo and at what boost level?

Thanks!

Hey Greg,

I have a 74 on it now, but its murder to spool...since its quite laggy for an auto!

I need something that will make at least 12+lbs of boost by 4k RPM.

I know the 67 will make well over 12+, but I want to see if there's an alternative........

What car, or who were you with?

I run that turbo only the NON R version. It does spool very well. According to my dyno, I am full boost at ~4700 rpm. The R version should be 4500ish RPM. Then a anti surge delete might get you 4300ish (maybe).

On a stock long block and alphabet soup I made 660 rwhp at 26-27lbs of boost. It would easily be over 700 on 2 bar. Not bad for a 70mm turbo.

notice the flat TQ curve. Pulls well.

James,

Thanks for the response! How much boost are you seeing at a flat 4k RPM?

And by full boost, how much boost are you referring to?

At 4k, I'm about 6-7lbs of boost.
The above dyno pull was 26-27lbs, so in that example, that would be my full
boost.

edit

BTW, you say you have a 74... is that a GT42-74?

Gotcha!

No I have the ITS 74 Q DBB w/.81 AR Exhaust Housing. Seems like this turbo is lagier then mine, I can get 10lbs at 4k FLAT. This blows....... I appreciate the help!

BTW: Zohair at BL just informed me that with the BL67 DBB I can hit 18lbs @ 4k :bowdown: :bowdown: :bowdown:

I'd just put the 67 back on Val. You know it works!

WTF????

Off the shelf you get 2 flavors:

GT4294 -> 94mm compressor wheel. Inducer options: 70mm.
GT4202 -> 102mm compressor wheel. Inducer options: 74mm,

In Precision Turbo format it has more flavors in between, including the GT4202 76mm and 80mm inducers, T4 or T6 flanges, 1.01/1.15 etc turbine housings.

I can't believe that 100 shot won't spool that turbo... I wouldn't give up on it Val.

see sig. its the dbb 74mm

640 rwhp / 485 rwtq at 19 psi on octane 94 - real conservative timing, safe afr's, etc.

No race gas numbers yet.

My car hits efficiency at like 5700 ish. I also have a virtual works intake that adds to the lag.

If you hate lag this turbo is not for you.

I'm not giving up yet Jim, just looking at options...! I'm going back to the track in a few or two to make a clean pass.

Can't you have a 72 mm version of your turbo Val? That would probably give you the results you are seeking for.

I've talked to IntheRed on numerous occasions! I won't buy another ITS Turbo, heck I ran a 10.05 with the BL67 3yrs ago.

Lots of knows problems, heck everyone complains of oil seal failures and oil leaks within 3k miles. Expensive as hell to rebuild, heck your better off buying a new turbo.... just not all that IMO.
