Has Anyone Driven Willow Springs Big Track?

I was pulling 1:38.55 lap times at Willow Springs last weekend in my BPU Supra TT with Eibach Pro Springs and Bridgestone R1a Dot-R tires. Just wondering if anyone else has driven the track in their Supra TT, and what the lap time were so I have something to compare to.

That's not a bad time at all; it's great if it's your first time at the WSIR. The Supra's I've seen at WS have run 1:42 - 1:38, so you're right in there. Basically, fast street cars at full weight can run about down to 1:35 or so, after which weight-reduced cars and full race cars run from there down to the high 1:20's.

Some fast times by good drivers are:

Doug Hayashi - s/c nsx - 1:29
Doug Hayashi - stock F355 - 1:38 (street tires I believe)
Paul Mumford - viper ACR - 1:27
Michael Andretti - 1987 CART-1:06
Nigel Mansell - 1982 era F1 - 1:06

I ran around 34's with my almost stock 93.5 supra with 98k miles, according to somones stopwatch in the pits. It has CCW's with kumho tires and a pulled trac fuse. I run factory brake pads and fluid too.

I think i could run 33's with a hotlap timer but im a lazy bastard and havent picked one up yet.

The car will be below 30 after the cage, interior work, coilovers, and bpu mods are done.

What schools have you done? And are you signed up for the OTC? Or do i have to defend the supra name all on my own against the rx7's, 911's, and m3's?

Stopwatch error?

I think that stopwatch must have been running a bit slow when you were driving Willow in a stock Supra. The Porsche GT3 Cup Race Cars were pulling 1:33.5/lap and they were KILLING me in the turns. Not only that, I was passing Viper's. We must be talking about two different places. Were you on the big track or the small, Streets of Willow 1.7mi track?

No we are talking about the same place and the stopwatch wasnt off. :) I was in the instructor/red group and the only people who passed me were doug and wayne.

Its all driver. If those cup cars were running mid 33's, they had new drivers. Doug in his nsx runs under 30 and is REALLY fast, but a porsche cup car is faster.

Ive seen with my own eyes a bone stock 993tt with hoosiers run 32's. And a creditable report of a C5 with konis and goodyear slicks running 28's or 29's.

Alot of people think willowsprings is all about the horse power but really its all driver.

Either way your times are good, i wasnt meaning to rain on your parade.. just giving you more info. :)

Wow!

Really... I must have been suckin' out there. The Porsche GT3 driver must have been new to the track. There was an Indy car out there (about 8-10 years old) that was pulling 1:23's. Thanks!

Read this!

Look at this page:

I still find it very tuff to believe those numbers.

Tell me what you think, considering the track records for prepared race cars with the fastest lap ever for the track is just about what you are talking about.

I'll report to you again on Sunday after I do the big track again. They're holding time trials. I'll bring out the stopwatch myself so we have a reference. Talk to you then

Those track records numbers look good. Keep in mind, those are SCCA classes which have alot of tire/hp limitations. The supra would be in GT-2 if i remember correctly, and the record for that is 27's... that seems about rite. Fully caged out, with a bad ass driver, and totally gutted car.. Everything below that is cheap fwd crap or old beat up sedan stuff.

Whats happening on sunday? Maybe ill cruise out if the weather is good. Im exhausted tho from the 3 day russell school i just got home from, and driving back up for the runoffs next friday.. not to mention my wallet is really hurting.

Track Event this weekend

TCRA is having a two-day event at Willow. Time trials, open track, and full race. I'm just going to run in open track for some track time. My TT is still fully streetable, with roll bar, seat, harness, fire system, etc. But, i haven't done anything to lighten the car, etc. Suspension includes Eibach Pro-Kit and Bridgestone R1a... I'm trying to keep it simple, cheap, and fun.

I'm going to do Saturday only. If you show up, look for my RED TT. I talked to the guy who is organizing the event and he said he could still get us in on it if we show up at 7:30am.

Hmm looks like i wont be making it. Dropped the car off for an oil change, brake fluid flush, and for them to swap on my track wheels.

Rear pads are at 15%, the fronts are at 25%.

Front rotors are warped (i knew this going in). Rears need resurfacing.

Total was gunna be > $500 so im not gunna have it done, just the oil change.

Good luck at WS, let me know how it goes.

I have run 1:32 with my Supra w/ Hoosiers and 1:37 with my 4-Cylinder E30 M3 on street tires.

A really good driver with a lightened Supra should be able to do 1:27 or 1:28.

max are you going to run the OTC? So far i think im the only supra... alot of good bench racers on the net, but no one with the balls to run.. and ill need help against the rx7's and m3's. :)

On the PROFILES page im team #77, would like to see more supras entered.

I am considering running this event. Perhaps in my Supra of even my E30 M3 race car. I will let you know if I run the Supra.
