Has anybody taken one apart?

How are they constructed internally?

Any way to fix'em?

They're basically hydraulic shocks. I don't think it would be easy to replace the seals and get things back together and working. Good luck if you try.

The rear hatch stays are "gas charged" they are non-serviceable.

The only choice is to replace them or............

for 10 bucks buy a pair of vice grips pliers .attach them to the shaft when the tail gate is up to hold it in place.
