What kind of head gasket/o-ring and head stud setup seem to work the best as far as combustion and coolant sealing? I'd love to hear what the WOTM/Titan comparable cars are doing.

I have a BL stock HG drilled for 1/2 ARP head studs. This is a very common pracitce for us that are making decent and GOOD power.

Do you guys o-ring the block or heads?

L19- 1/2 inchers with stock gasket, Calculated 1533 rwhp @ redline.

As the head is alum and reasonable soft compared to the block, wouldn't the wire work its way into the head over time and eventually you'd need to face the head again?? And then I believe its very difficlut to servive an O ringed head as its very hard to line up the O ring cutter to cut the O rings deeper back in the same place... Makes a lot more sense to me to run O rings in the block, at least they won't wear, you simply replace the wire evry few times you remove the head...

I also would have thought the steel head gasket wouldn't have been conducive to accepting an O ring.... Still can't believe people are making 1500rwhp on stock gaskets!!

Agreed. Just wanted to point out that it is ok to do it either way if you do in fact want to run an oring setup. Personnally I do not think it is worth the trouble on a 2J as there are several easier and more cost effective opptions that work perfectly.

Erin,
Thanks for all of the input. Honestly, I'm more looking for whats going to hold the best across the board. I'm not building a 2J but I am building another style of motor that has not seen cylinder pressures that equal 225-275hp per cylinder. I've talked to guys that run very different types of engines and everyone seems to think that as far as the extreme combos the O-ring holds the most cylinder pressure but with the downside being the copper leaks. The MLS gasket/o ring seems to net the best of both worlds but there is always more than one way to skin a cat. Thanks again guys!

Good thread:)

I run 1/2'' ARP studs with a WOTM turbo kit, Titan 3.0 and HEADGAMES Ferrea valve job'd head.
I experienced something a little strange the first time WOTM tuned the car on the dyno...the car leaked a little(4 ounces of coolant from the driver's side of the block, from where seemed to be the oil cooler area or maybe the block.) I noticed this after I pulled the car out and by then, most of the evidence had evaporated on the car.

It never leaked again, even after another tune, strange I tell you.:dunno:

I have done at least 30 hard pulls on race gas and 20 dyno pulls with no issues. Conclusion-1/2'' ARP studs are the way to go.

2J's simply don't have a head lifting problem. I personally ran mine on a totally stock 100k longblock with 38psi and 150 shot for a year. Then I tore it down, only to find that it was perfect... lol
My built motor has stock size L19's and a stock headgasket. It sees 150shot and 42psi regularly without a problem. O-rings and copper gaskets are more maintenance and if your tune is far enough off to blow a headgasket, then the stocker could save you from destroying pistons. Copper and o-rings won't blow, and belong on high boost V-8's and honda's!

How much rwhp were you making?
