What kinda paint do you use to paint the housing of the mk4 headlight?

For a job that basic, you can pretty much use what you want.....pay a shop to shoot them when you get them open (they can't possibly charge you much), or do it yourself with a good spray paint....i'm thinking a semi-gloss would look best.
The key is to scuff that plastic good all the way to the edges so they won't want to peel (like the factory lights do after time). Don't use anything too coarse or it may show when painted - something equivelant to 400-600grit.

Thanks, I painted them this morning with some spray paint from advanced. They look so good. I'll get some pics later.

Hmmm, you're actually saying that paint won't cover 400-600grit?? :scratch:
I've sprayed basecoat over a total of roughly 1-zillion jobs in 10yrs using 400-600grits, and you can't see the scratches when dry The only jobs worth jumping above 600 are the blends on golds and silvers

I will say, some brands are/can be a little more coarse than other brands of the same grit.........so, when I'm using brand-A that is more coarse than brand-B of the same grit, I'll jump up to 500, maybe 600, when I'd be using 400 with the smoother brand for the same job.

Bottom line though....400-600 is the most perfect range of grit to paint over while still not seeing the scracthes when dry.
Sure, it's possible to paint over 600-1 million grit, but why would you?? Adhesion is more compromised the smoother you go. Have you ever seen clearcoat actually SHED from a car in sheets....to only notice shiny or barely-sanded paint underneath?

Black spray paint will certainly cover 400-600grit.
The idea is to spray over the most coarse grit that can still be covered without any visual problems once the paint is dry (400-600) ------> so you get the *coverage* while maintaining optimal *adhesion*

Yeah, your only choices with a red car are leaving them alone, or shooting them red........then it'll look like a red ferrari
