I have a few helmets but one of them is a Shoei Synchrotech that flips up. It has it's pluses and minuses. It's nice to flip up and yell at other riders, in slow ass traffic you can flip it up for more air, and it's easier to put on while flipped open. It is a little louder for wind noise, and it's heavier. As far as safety I don't wear it to track days but I bet it would keep you pretty safe. Worse case scenario would be a face plant and the front would break off but it would still protect you like an open face helmet.
