The main features I am looking for in my next DVD head unit with flip out screen is the following:

DVD-RW - LIke the Pioneers play.
The ability to listen to the radio i.e. change stations without having screen up.
Built in dedicated back up camera connect - Like the panasonics.
Vertical manual tilt towards front passenger would also be nice.

Multi channel Doulby 5.1 with Touch screen too.

Anyone know of a unit meeting either all of these requirements or all but vertical tilt?

Please let me know make and model here.

I love that eclipse deck, but he said he was interested in a flip out one in which case this one would be a better choice Eclipse AV8533

Alpine also has a real nice single din DVD player, I'm not sure the exact model but it's very nice. I spent about an hour playing with it while I was waiting for my stereo to be done.

Oh it doesnt really have to be a flip out. A real nice double DIN would be fine too. Forgive me but I am a real Motor Head, not much of a stereo head at all. Thats why I need the help picking one out.

So do any of the newest head units with hard drives let you load something like Windows Media Player yet? Do you lose anything going the route of a carputer build vs. the Eclipse 2494? What about building a carputer that also hook up to your stand alone for tuning? Is that being done yet. Making an all inclusive unit would be great if your not sacrificing like you usually do when combining technologies.

I've seen some programs that will monitor certain things, I have no idea what it's called though. I would suggest trying to get in contact with some of the guys who are building the carputers. From what I've seen they do really good work. I have considered going with one myself...it's extensive but if you're looking for a harddrive type set up I would suggest that over an aftermarket deck. With the carputer you would be able to do upgrades as well as customize everything to what "YOU" want and not sacrifice. and to reiterate a previous reply, it's probably a decent bit cheaper as well.

As far as I know, none of the new head units allow you to use windows media player.

Carputers are pretty versatile, so I suggest pming one of the people who has done a carputer install and find out what they have to say about it. I have forgotten the name of the few people who have done it, but I'm sure if you search you'll come up with a few results.

My one warning about a carputer is to make sure you have access to the power somewhere near by. It can be slightly frustrating to have to go to the trunk to turn it on/off every time you use it!

Carputer Idea sounds like something I will be leaning towards. If I could set up something like the Windows media player features, a jukebox type song capacity, plus run my AEM software I am planning and whatever else I can think up. Weight would be a concern of mine during the build. I have shaved too much off this street car of mine to be adding a ton with a heavy carputer set up. Im sure lightweight components would be an option and they would be a priority for my build.

Question for the carputer guys, do you have to wait till Windows loads up and then the AEM program to load up before you can turn the car on? I mean if the AEM is setup through the carputer, and if the carputer is turned off, can the car still be driven?

Make sure to read a lot of feedback from people who have owned the N1 though, because I've heard that it does not perform as well as it should for it's extremely high price tag.

Thanks guys for helping me come to a decision here. Hers what I have decided for now:

1. Carputer sounds best but theres no time for that before the show season starts for me ( as usual )
2. I no longer want a flip out and dont even know why I thought I did.
3. The AVX2404 is sounding pretty good to me so I guess im gonna buy one of them in like a few days here. I have several questions on that particular unit so I PM'd SupraNikolai.

Anyone have any last minute recommendations before I get one? It will be a full blown carputer for next season then.
