It would appear as though the coil dwell and ignition phasing is different on the new AEM 6101 boxes than it is on the v1 1100.

2JZ-GE w/TT hadgasket, NA wiring harness
67mm turbo, 3.5bar MAP, distributor

The car is hitting wall between 3500-4100rpm and when it does the rpm tach drops. The car is eating ignition coils. The distributor rotor has been phased properly and timing set on the AEM at 15 degrees. We've tried setting the 1st ignition tooth to 21.53 but there isn't enough timing resolution to sync the timing when we change the value. The car just shuts off right away.

Is anyone else having this issue? I wish I could just plug in the coil and ignition values from the v1 that's working on my car but they just aren't working for the v2. What is everyone else using for the distributor on the 6101 boxes?

Hmm. What happens when you attempt to sync the timing? Are you experiencing drift? If you're unfamiliar with how to do this, go to the sync wizard and lock it in at 15*. Run a jumper boot in between the no. 1 coil and monitor timing on the damper with a MECHANICAL timing light (by mechanical I mean unadjustable, no adjusting buttons). Does the timing drift considerably at 3500-4100 rpms? If so, try flipping rising and falling edge, then repeat. Had the EXACT same thing on a v2 RB25. Unfortunately havent done any NA-Ts with the V2 yet, anyway, let me know.

yeah i'm very familiar with syncing the timing. on the v1 i am using falling edge but it doesn't seem to matter what it is set to on the v2 as it still hits a brick wall. i am just trying to help a friend and we're stuck. we're going to try a few more things and report back. just curious if there are any known distributor issues with the v2 because there are with the v1.

If you're experiencing drift, then it should just be a matter of inverting/flipping pickups, or something is backwards in the wiring when you converted to cop. Is it load dependant or strictly rpm dependant? Free rev wont go past 4K either? What does ignition timing vs. Ignition map say at that rpm when you log?
