Okay, i'm going to get right to the point, next year i am going to buy a "new car". I have two choices, a Pontiac GTO, or a MKIV Supra. I'm leaning more towards the Supra since right now i have a Toyota and i love how reliable it is, and plus, the Supra is beautiful, what else can i say? I love american muscle, but i can always respect a true tuner( not ricer, two totally different categories). I was wondering what are some basic mods that can be done to give more power (i'm looking at a 6speed tt). I've seen a GTO beat out a Supra, both stock. I hope i'm coming off clear. Basically, i just want more information about it from actual owners. Thank you for your help.
Michael.

I would get the supra, if you search the forums you will find plenty of info. BPU supras can hit 400 hp easy they are just a great all around car.

Well bang for buck.. I would say gto! they're cheap verses buying a tt 6speed. supra's can get very expensive when you start talking about modifying been. The supra will definitely turn heads, and you WILL get alot of attention driving it. i've had ppl turn around and follow me just to look at my supra.. thank god know one's followed me home yet! anything i park my supra somewhere like.. the gym, walmart, movies when im walking back to my supra, someones always around my Damn car!

OP, at the end of the day you can get a car for half the price of a Supra and it'll be faster in a straight line. Example being a shitty 5.0L mustang with some bolt-ons.

These Supra's are fairly rare and real imports which in this day and age will not exist anymore from brand new car makes.

Don't get me wrong they are FAST but they cost more for a reason. It's a timeless classic... You can't just find one for cheap (you can but it will be a roller or beat the fuck up).

Personally, of course. I'd say Supra all day long, no contest.

However I like the GTO's for what they are. I mean seriously.

If your requirements are RWD, with 4 Doors, 6 Manual, affordable and a V8 with mod potential - the GTO is a nice snug fit!

So, i found a website (http://www.suprastore.com/2jzgteengine.html) that sells Supra "mods". One of the things i was looking at is the new engine replacement. Any opinons/ comments? (6speed manual btw)
I've owned both a 06 GTO and several Supras, get the Supra.

It is a special vehicle that has timeless looks, is very rare, and has the reliable power that you want.

GTO's are awesome cars too, especially the 05-06 models with the LS2 engine. They are much more common, and some people aren't very fond of the subdued exterior styling. Some don't like the fact that they aren't a true "retro" muscle car, but rather an imported Aussie Holden Monaro with a Pontiac badge.

The GTO has a better interior than the Supra, the seats are much more comfy, and the layout is real clean and modern. Although it could be argued that it is an unfair comparison seeing that the Supra is about 10-15 years older than the GTO.

Power wise, stock for stock the GTO wins, but thats because it has more HP. Upgrading potential goes to the Supra because it is a turbocharged platform with a stout engine block that can handle a lot of power.

If you know you're going to mod the car, Supras offer a better bang for the buck comapred to the GTO. It takes several thousands dollars in bolt ons for the GTO to achieve the power levels the Supra can create with simple BPU mods, most of which you can buy used for cheap on this forum. The GTO bpu mods are usually intake, long-tube headers, exhaust, and a few other mods, most of which net around high 300-400rwhp. But after that, the only real way to achieve power above 500hp is to go FI, nitrous, or built engine.

Simply put, the GTO is a heavier, less aerodynamic Corvette.
It's subjective, but if I were to choose, seeing that I've owned both cars, and not a biased fanboy, go with the Supra.

I think you're thinking of the G8 since the GTO only comes with 2 doors.
