Hey guys n gals, just a few questions regarding my little adventure. I have a 1988 mk3 5 speed n/a that I am trying to swap with a 1jz.

My main question is, what exactly am I looking to have to do precisely? I was told, to save money, I can use a 7m-gte harness and extend it to use on a 1j with minor modifications to it such as throttle. However, i’m stuck with almost everything else such as ecu’s, driveshaft, diff. And of course, transmission.

I was wondering what else would be as good as an r154 if not better for the same if not lower price. Someone along the way mentioned an r155? Or out of an old tacoma? Any and all help with the swap in parts, or a tip on the process as a whole is very welcome. Thanks!

I'm doing a very similar swap, but using a 2jzgte. Ok here are some short answers that I have learn during this project.
You can use your w58 tranny with with the jz motor, just buy a w58-jz-bellhousing. This for sure will save you around $1500 I been reading that it can hold up to 500whp.
Now if you planning to get a upgrade tranny just get the r154 rebuilded and reinforced.

Now to the wiring for the 2jz I decided to go with a standalone ecumasters black edition. And from there I did my own engine wiring. Or you can get the wiring from wiring specialist and it's around $1k.

And finally yes you will need around 8-10k to get a good build swap.

Thanks for the insight!

I am actually going to go with the r155 out of an older tacoma and go from there. As for wiring, I am actually having a 7mgte harness extended atm to fit the 1jz instead of spending the 900$ etc.

As for price, I have a good chunk of what I need already at barely 1k$. And will probably only be looking to go another 3, maybe 4k$ deep.
