hey guys i need help fast! i got a used s-afc from ebay. when i connect the red wire and the black+brown wire to a battery, only the buttons light up! is that what its supposed to do? how do i make sure the vac display will light up? i dont have the time to hook it up to the car, so is there a way to test that its not broken? help me please guys!

well, to test if it works, you NEED to hook it up to the car, its not THAT hard.

Man, a lot of people are getting broken SAFC's latly, I tested mines, i connected both the grounds and the power wire to my battery and the whole thing lit up and I just went through all the menu's and it works fine, so it should light up the display... do you have the blue screen SAFC or the one with the knobs? aight peace

i've got the old style one. blue screen with buttons. i pulled it apart and theres a burnt spot on the top left corner of the screen. only the buttons light up. so this thing is f*cking junk. what a waste of money.

That's a VFD( vacuum flourescent display). I am sure the black spot you see does NOT mean it's burnt out. I have a VFD right here on my desk with a black spot in the corner and it works perfect. Look for a broken solder joint or something. Use a magnifying glass or something if you don't have anything else to inspect it with.
