Need help guys...

I was aiming at the HKS SS BOV first because I just love that high pitched bird-like whistle but now 3 of my friends bought the same BOV and I want to be different. Yeah yeah, I know, it should not matter what others have but I live in a very tiny town : )

Anyways, the most important question is of course the sound since MVP already claims it's the best BOV out there...
How exactly does it sound compared to other BOVs on the market? Does it sound like its younger brother the SS? Anyone here with that BOV?

Also, I've heard that this R2D2 BOV is kinda cool soundning, true?

Please try and give me some good pointers because it is virtually impossible for me to hear a HKS Racing BOV since there aren't any around here : (

Thanx in advance for your time!

Racing BOV is basically an open BOV, so it's going to make a basic PSSSH sound. It's a racing BOV, which means it's not going to open on low boost (hard spring). It's not going make much in the way of "sounds" unless you are hitting really high boost , at which point a super loud PSH of air will be heard.

It's a serious BOV, and the people who buy it don't buy it for the sound.

If you want to be different, get the SS and take the insert out.
What would taking the insert out do? I have the purple insert.

Makes the sound more of a low pitch, a blast of air.

Sounds like a blitz pretty much.

hks is the best sounding BOV i've ever heard.
if you want to konw what it sounds like go to
suprastore.com then download the HKS Ti exhaust video.
that black supra has the hks racing

but remember that this is expensive as F*ck, and you HAVE to have it welded. $$$

I've read that the SS BOV can use some kind of "inserts"...
One gold colored and one purple colored. But the purple one comes with the BOV when you purchase it right?

What do theese inserts do then? If I remove them will it sound like the Blitz? And how does the Blitz sound like?

It sounds so cool with the purple insert I can't imagine it will sound better without the insert :)

Is the Racing BOV overkill for a BPU+ car?

Thanx again for all your time...
G
Since you have the purple insert, don't bother, it does almost the same thing.

The racing BOV is quite expensive, only get it if you need it (~$350-400).. You could get 2 HKS SS bovs for that price, which alot of people do.

You should find something wrong with what you are currently using, before you upgrade it.
leave it in

i tried taking the insert out on my hks ssbov. it came with the GOLD insert... the three laser beam type of tip. looks like it will shoot out a beam through it, one of those star trek weapons.. :)

anyways, i tried taking the insert and cover off.. it doesn't sound that good.. not as loud and high pitched at all... almost likea
Bfffttt
little louder than the greddy type S which is more of an airy Puffshh
:)

anyways, i'd leaVE THe insert in.. i might go get the purple insert and try it out and see how that soundl ike compared to the stock gold insert..
G
The "stock" insert is silver (at least that is what mine came with). I bought a purple one (ordered from HKS through Dusty), put it in last night, i'll let you know in a couple of days what it sounds like (if it ever stops raining here). I was getting tired of the high-pitched "whistle" from the stock insert.

Either of you guys want to donate the sound/video clip of the gold or purple insert to the bov page??

I'm sure many would appreciate it!!

I think that boost pressure has a bigger role in making your BoV sound. All BPU cars have a similar/certain BoV sound, even if they run different BoV's. If you stick a BIG turbo on your car and run high boost your car will make some of the most beautiful sounds you ever heard =)

More boost = better and cooler sound.... (not that it really matters.)

IMO it is the sound of performance that sounds the best. You cant go wrong with Blitz, HKS SS, HKS racing bov's. If you are BPU just get an HKS SS BoV and be done with it..

take care,

Nils can you mail my again

My mail box crasched
will the hks ssq bov stock location have the same "sound" as if it was on a hard pipe weld'd? just wondering...
G
I'm using the HKS Racing BOV, it doesn't sound anything like the HKS SS...it sounds more like the new Blitz BOV. You have to be running at really high boost to hear it. I can't hear it at all on my car once the wastegate open. I like the HKS wastegate sounds much better than the BOV ;)

Putting the BOV before the intercooler (close to turbo as possible) will cause the loudest sound.
G
BUT ...

Like Nils said, nothing will make it sound more sweet then some HIGH boost... hehe....
