i've been using this element air filter for a while on my old 7mgte, no problems with it.... but everytime i read about the racing trf element.... they say for race only.... b/c the element is good for maximum airflow but the does not clean the air coming in as good as the regular hks element..... i got my 1jz in now and i dont want to risk having to rebuild it b/c some stupid dirt got in my engine.... in my opinion the trf element was very clean on the inside of the element filter.... im going to buy a new one.... it seems to me that it cleaned the air coming in pretty well... who else is using this filter????

Very nice comparison chart..... the HKS filter is really straight through, and obviously very crappy at filtration.

Looks to be APEX`i takes the cake in that TEST

have you guys even seen a trf filter? how can u even judge a filter you've never seen..... im my opinion the trf came out cleaner than the regular filter i used to use.... everytime i use the old filter it gets dirty really fast... i will post pics of the filter that i used in the 7m for at least 3 years

Can you post pics of what the TRF looks like? and would it fit the HKS adapter? cause I had the hks adapter, but changed it out with a K&N filter... aightpeace

i doubt little dirt particles will do anything, theyll just get burned up nicely and chucked out the exhaust, unless youre rally racing or drive in industrial areas, i wouldnt worry about it.

HKS Element - The HKS Super Mega flow element is a 2-layer, dual density, wet-type polyurethane filter that uses an impregnated viscid fluid to attract and stop damaging dirt particles from entering your engine

TRF Element - They are engineered with a single polyurethane foam layer with larger pores than standard Super Filter elements to allow greater airflow efficiency.

Basically, the regular elment has 2 layers, normal plus a more dense inner material.

TRF has just a thick version of the outer layer filter with wider holes and no dense inner material.

I've used HKS for years.. no problems... They do not fall apart unless you wash them or use them beyond their life span.

Slimfast supra is almost right.... the trf element is does have the same inner as the regular element.... the trf has a very different outer layer.... the outer layer doesnt look like pores that are thicker.... the outer layer is like a fuzzy stuffed animal... try to post pics sorry...

Dirt harms the enigne by getting in to the oil supply by sticking to the cyl walls and by passing the rings, also causes dammage to the rings if it fuses to the cyl wall. Depending on what is sucked up it could be big enough to harm the turbo even something very small getting sucked up at 140000RPM will caus lots of dammage.. Take for example why many people have chipped fins on the turbo...

Chipped fins are a direct results of having something that shouldn't have been sucked up though the intake.

I'd say away form mega dirt flow.. Buy a K&N and just keep oiling it.

Found this at one of the ITG suppliers. This looks cool.

ITG does have some nice 3in outlet filters, would be fun to try with the ole AFM adaptor.

Any filter should keep rocks and stuff big enough to take out teh impellor. I dont know about any dust particles surviving 1400+ comb. temps... but ill take your word for it...

Not many people think about this due to the popularity of the product/brand name. BUT ... K&N filters are not nearly the best out there to offer ... they are among the worst. Some filter is better than no filter though.

lint is deadly at 50-100k RPM...Ang, I'll bring my turbo to a meet this winter and you can see what a very small intake leak allowed to happen (thanks to the former owner...).

ack you guys are making me worried, But theres tons of pplin motorsports that run open turbos with just a screen, or even wide open (esp in drag racing) and a few ppl on here? is it really that dangerous?

PS ive had a chipped fin turbo , dont know what caused it tho? maybe my filter is crappy?
