So at this point in my build, I am assembling all the parts from box I bought and the manifold was a t4 and turbo was t3. So since I have no budget to speak of, I am just using these parts and an adapter. My question is that since the turbo sits 2 3/4" higher (it clears hood), I am worried about the heat damaging the hood. What do you guys think?

That does sit a bit high so I would run a turbo blanket for sure. Maybe even coat the hotside too. Are you running underhood insulator ?
Any chance to shorten the adapter piece ?

If there's no budget then a turbo blanket will run you more then replacing the exhaust housing to a t4 (if you can find one). Btw, that looks ridiculous.

Keep the underhood insulator and run a turbine blanket, as stated above, and you should be fine.

What he said. Screw that shit man! Save some money (it really shouldn't cost much to replace the hot side) and fix that instead of gambling and hoping a blanket will keep the hood safe.

@JZA80inGA just save it up and do it right. No sense in knowingly setting yourself up to do something twice.

stock hood flew off the car 2008 on the highway at over 160mph cleared the car lol
what was the pucker factor on that pull? geez, i'dd like to see a video of that.

EDIT: the pull, not the pucker!

Why not just save a little more and buy a t4 turbo? Sell the T3 junk and do what's right, not what's easy.
This^.... In the long run you will be so much more happier and have a peice of mind it is done right!

Ordered the 3/4" adapter. It was 30 dollars. It was this or postpone the project another year... I know it is a crap turbo, but I am on a firemedic with two kits budget, and I am four years in and the car has never moved. Thanks for all of your help and I appreciate the adapter find.

Aren't firemedics Union jobs and don't they pay well? I know you have two kids, but seriously you can't afford anything? Time to give up the Supra or something...

No, they are not. And no in south Georgia we don't. For me my family is my priority and the car is nothing more than a project. There is a big dierence in not minding to spend 100 bucks to make free NIB (low quality) parts work, and justifying dropping 2k (a quarter of the whole projects value) on a high quality turbo setup. That's real hard to justify when you could spend that money on your family. For some of us, our only option for building our dream car is piece by piece in our backyard, with parts from Autozone instead of Gretty. I was unaware that supras are exclusively for the wealthy.

Nobody suggested you get a 2000 dollar turbo kit, no that you supras (or modified cars in general are for the wealthy). Simply that you get the proper turbine housing, which will solve your issue and is correct for the project. If you get the car running you'll have to spend way more on gas than the turbine housing, so if that exceeds your budget the e operating costs will do and like you said you'd rather spend it on your family (and rightfully so).
