How high can you boost the SP57?

What is the realistic boost limit of the SP57 with an upgraded fuel system (720cc). What kind of horsepower would you be looking at at that maximum boost level with a properly tuned setup?

I would have to disagree on that one. I bet the 57 would top out at about 535-540. Maybe 550. I had fuel on my 60 with the .70 a/r and I topped off at about 560. I was running a bit rich so if I could have ironed out my VPC/AFC wiring in time I think I could have hit about 570-575 but no more than that.

Would depend on the setup, and how much boost you want to run. I think the turbo can flow 30+ pounds of boost, and definitely make in the upper 500's if you're willing to push it like that. I haven't had it back on the dyno for more tuning because I destroyed my diff last weekend, but 127MPH in the 1/4 at ~19PSI on pump gas speaks for itself.

Now, if you guys all want to tell Larry to put in a fuel system for free for me, I'll be happy to tell you how the 57 handles crazy boost. ;)

Ced - What boost were you running on your 60 when you hit your highest of ~560RWHP? Were you pushing it hard or keeping it low? My car saw a TON more horsepower at 4400RPM with the boost at ~24PSI vs. ~17.5PSI (~445 vs. ~380RWHP, not to mention a gain of 75+RWTQ) before we aborted the run due to fuel issues.

There's little doubt in my mind that the 57 is capable of at least 540RWHP at 25PSI. And there's still got a lot of area to expand into, I'll spin that thing to 32+PSI if it can do it to see what will happen, if I ever do a fuel system (right before putting a 63 in, heh). :)

Driving a borrowed Civic when your Supra is dead sucks...

if you topped off at about 560 then 550 is about correct i think !!

the PHR Street Turbo System is able to hit 550 with supporting fuel system
this kit is not meant to compet against the sp57 or 60 the PHR Stage 1 Single Turbo is meant to compet against them so im sure 550 is about right !butthen again im just guessing!;)and you could be correct Silver Orchid !

Pete, I was at about 30psi but from about 26-30 I didnt see a diffrence in hp. I think I could have squeezed another 10-15 hp out of the turbo with a better A/F ratio but that's about it. I was really pushing the turbos and each time I bumped up the boost a bit it did not make a difference. With cams or maybe an intake manifold that would be increased but not without them. That being said I think the 57 is an incredible turbo. My SP60 spooled incredibly fast. (Right Brad?!) A BPU Supra would not get the jump on me. That fact that the 57 spools a bit quicker but still puts out almost the same amount of power is scary!
My understanding is that the SP57-SP60's are small shaft turbo's. I don't know if this means that they have smaller bearings than an SP63 but if they do, the RPM's needed to support 26-30 psi might bring the longevity into question. I feel that this is part of the problem with the stock turbos not lasting at 20+ psi. I doubt the bearings are as small as the stock turbos, but I would still think those boost levels are asking a lot of such a small turbo.

An SP57 is running 127mph in the 1/4. I wonder what my SP63 will hit on the 3/4 mile long straight at Roebling Road Raceway? :)
BTW you enter this straight from turn 9 with an exit speed close to 100 mph (on street tires). My slightly detuned BPU Supra (17psi) hit 154mph. Hopefully with the SP63 I can top 160mph. :D

Later, Steve
Could you post Dyno sheets of a SP63? Looks like I am getting that turbo. thanks.
