After I am rebulding my engine (72000 km odo) I started to think if Supra's engines are really booletproof?????

I have only BPU+ and my engine has to be totally rebuilded!

So, my question is simple - how many HP can we have to feel safe...

Or maybe reality is hard to believe, and to run BPU we should change valves, pistons, etc

What are your experience? How many Supra's engines have blowned up or had to be rebuilded? And why? Please share your knowladge...

No engine will survive if you allow it to detonate wildly. As for maximum power it can hold, I don't think the limit has been reached yet. A burned ring or piston has nothing to do with power potential - the bottleneck is with the tuner.

Well, I am not mechanic - I am racer so I am not specialist in staff like that. I was watching very carefully a/f & EGT - they were fine. It should not broke.

I do not think 1.5 is too much boost if fuel is there...

For sure if I don't make my car BPU+, I would not have to rebuilt engine now!!! That's a fact.

Your gas is probably crap over there...

Peter,

First off, EGT & a/f ratios don't necessarily correlate to knock. Secondly, depending on where you have your EGT mounted (aka, ANYWHERE else but the #6 runner). It's input is USELESS.
There are also scores of other things that could have gone wrong other than "it should not broke". Unless you have a REAL nice budget and don't mind the downtime, it is important to investigate why the motor went, not just make it a little tougher and hopefully it won't happen again. Injector could have been clogged by some debris, fuel filter could have been dirty, fuel pressure reguator could have let go, shoot, as extremely unlikely as it is, one of the piston oil squirters which are designed to cool the #6 piston could have not defective from the factory.

BTW: I don't know if I buy what your mechanic was saying about your EGR either. Plain and simple, because the design of the intake manifold as well as the coolant flow through the head, the #6 sees the most abuse.

I agree, the 2JZGTE doesn't just "break." It's very tolerant of abuse. If after a lot of investigation you still cannot find the culprit, then replace everything. Watch everything very carefully.

peter, if i remember correctly, you stated in some of your earlier posts ( maybe a month or two ago) that you were trying to run 2 bar with the stock twins. and over there in germany, the factory turbos on the uk cars aren't as reliable as the us versions we have. 2 bar is NOT GOOD for the stock turbos. maybe that was one of the problems.

Jeremy,

Are U sure that we in europe don't have the same stock turbos as you do??

A what I've heard it's the same engine in Europe and US...maindifferens is that we have

Eurohoodscoop
Outside airtemp
Active front spoiler
Heated front seats

probably there are some more but I think the engine is the same, and then obviosly 2.0bar (28psi) is to much for them anyway...

just my 0,02c

I agree with you and the 2 bar boost story, but peter life in poland and all europe mkiv tt models has the same stock turbos like the us model. in the uk are some imported mkiv with jap specs and they have of course the jap spec turbos. it could be possible that the quality from the gas in poland in not at the same level than in germany but I do not know any clear informations about that.

oh common don't blame all polish fuel, altohough racing gas at 4DM per liter is hardly avalible, we still have 99+.. which Peter obviously didn't use...
and that why i'll be buying a full ECU system instead of the MBC/AFC combo if you get my drift..

Considering Craig paisley, and Dusty and PHR both have supras with stock internals running over 1000 hp i think they are pretty freakin tough.
