I own a 3rd gen rx7 and i know the costs of going from Twin Turbo to Single. I was just curious to know how much it cost to do it on a MKIV?
Also, how strong is that 2jz-gte block? I hear its strong

Go search www.mkiv.com

Also the block is very strong.....Mike Carlin put down 980rwhp on the stock bottom end......Peter Blach put down 958rwhp also on the stock bottom end. Also the cost of going single really depends on the size of the single and what company you go with. Also are you talking about just the turbo itself or all the other componants like the AEM EMS and a fuel system and some sort of intercooler? Lots of different variables. My suggestion is that you do some research.

Also check out www.t04r.com to see more hp numbers

Yes, i am talking the complete set up.
As of now my FD3 made [email protected] psi. If i go single turbo on the rx7. I can use a T78 and make 450-500 rwhp at 16 psi.

I am reading if i use a t78 on a MKIV you can make 700+

What really gets my attention about the MKIV is the Top end! Very impressive!

You forgot tuning and labor Zohair!! ;) Lots of dough...When all said and done, 10K$ approx without getting too fancy. Cams, valvetrain, etc. can get you a pretty big bill.

you will forever be in debt unless you are loaded!

Atleast 10k initially, then thats just the beginning of the "bug". You will find many handfuls of people that have spent over $25k dollars + the price of the car itself! I know I'm up there! and I do all of my own work or w/the help of friends!

Can you have a 700 RWHP street driven supra that is "RELIABLE"!

I have a serious buyer for my FD3 now... so i need to know these things about the supra. Or should i just go single turbo on the rx7?
Yes you can. BTW, consider that MKIVs are very difficult to find in Canada. You'd almost have to import one from the States. But the Supra will be very reliable compared to the weak rotary engine you have in the RX7, especially in high boost situation.

I really like the rx7's as they are really light, but they are fragile.

To put this in perspective, your single turbo 7 will put down about 450 rwhp. My supra on stock twins with a fmic and a fuel computer put down 449 rwhp and 468 ftlbs.

I have been seriously looking at the different paths for going single.

here are the extreme ranges for you...
turbo kit -
used - $2k (log manifold, etc)
new - $6k+ for big singles from WOTM, SP, RPS, etc

intercooler -
$1k - $1.5k

clutch-
$600 - $2 or 4k

exhaust - $450 used to $1100

Fuel computer - $200 (used S-AFC)

you could get away with just doing this, or you could add an AEM, or a VPC, or the new PHR computer. And $2k for the fuel system to make serious power.

And from here, the sky is the limit. CAMs, Cam gears, intakes, etc...

Good luck. Its a slippery slope.

I agree with many of the posted pricing as it can be anywhere from 3,000 to 25,000+ depending on what you do. I would tell most friends to expect to spend 15K total until things break or you want something else. The problem in pricing is that it depends on what you do yourself and the losses you'll take by going too cheap. I wouldn't skimp out on the fuel system nor the tuning. Also, never use shit gas when you want to make power and your motor will hopefully stay together. I wouldn't say our bottom ends handle 900WHP easily. Once people really start racing on them, they seem to break easier at 850+ when not built. Good luck.
