I just got my 98 RSP, I use to own a 95 6spd. These r 2 different cars!!!! I think i need to learn how to drive all over again. Could someone please tell me how to launch my auto and how to race from a roll. Should I drive in the "manual" mode? Should i turn the O/D off? Guys, so far I have not been able to leave the light with anything. It almost feels like I am not even racing. Any help would be appreciated.

I just leave my car in D when I am going from a dead stop. Then I put my left foot on the brake and hold it down firmly while pushing the gas pedal down. I usually get the rpm's up to about 1700-1800 and then while flooring the gas pedal take your foot off the brake and you will launch really well. Good luck

lol. first, congrats on your new RSP. it feels slower than your old car because its bone stock. getting use to shift points and the launch points just takes some practice and finesse. you know the car has potential because you have run plenty of autos before. :bthumb:

powerbreak till it wont hold it anymore, hold up the ebrake while you are doing it to keep the rear tires from spinning, that way you will not roast your tires in the process, and also they will grab better thent hey would if they were moving to start off with...
then drop the ebrake and let off the brake at the same exact time...

powerbraking

How much do you powerbrake your cars with stock autos?

Do you just push the brake HARD and give it trottle..? to what RPM:s ...is 1700-1800 enough as someone said?

what boost do you see when you release the brake.?

:D  :D

my highest launch was about 3k rpm on stock tranny/tc... I think I had about 6lbs of boost on that launch, it was a long time ago though.. the car was stock other than VSV bypass mod..

have not gotten a chance to run it with my Downpipe/exhaust on yet... I think Ill finally have the cash for Turbos thursday though! :D :D :D

New tires, foot brakes + e-brake ... without the ebrake I can only pull of a 2200rpm launch... sometimes 2400 if im lucky... the e-brake helps a lot, but it feels very awkward at first using the e-brake as a launching method.

i too have same problem with launching my 93.5 ttauto. i have found that from a dead start, just leave it in D and power brake enough just to keep the rear wheels from spinning. leave off O/D or press manual(i have found no diff. between the two) and try turing off trac. but if i have to much rpm(especially at strip) it will spin and when it catches 2nd it spins again. i have found that if you try for perfect launches each time you end up spinning. just come off line not too aggresive and around 50ft everything starts to come alive. with auto's i have found that you need to make up time at mid to end of track. each car is diff. just experiment. good luck. sure feels good when you hit ir right !!!:D

Thanks everyone,
I have been able to launch decently and let me say that an auto will take off on most 6spds, unless the 6spd driver is a very good driver or they slip the hell out of their clutch. Dont get me wrong, the 6spd was fun but the auto is a lot faster and more consistant from a STOP, from a roll a 6spd has the advantage but the auto will pull a little everytime they shift.
