checked my timing tonight (among other things) and it looked OK at idle but way off at higher rpm. The repair manual is fairly clear about checking the timing but I couldn't find where/how to set/adjust it????
Am I missing it in the manual (I have a '94 auto TT)??
(I looked all over and just can't find a distributor to rotate!!  )

You can't adjust base timing on a TT. You can though on a NA.
You can adjust the idle though. The book will tell you how.

Thats because there is no distributer, its all controlled be the ECU. What is way off? As long as its <=50 at cruise and not dropping too bad below 23 at WOT you should be fine. Theoretically you could ajust the crank angle sensor to change timing (thats what the ITC does) but I can't imagine why.

Ahh almost forgot you can somewhat affect timing buy advancing or retarding the intake cam gear if you got an adjustable one.
