Hi guys,

Last weekend I installed my newly built enigne into one of our supras and, today my brither came home with a blom metal headgasekt. Now e want to take the enigne back out of the one engine and put into the other one. The only thing is that one is a auotmatic the other a manual. Now how do i best take out the engine with the maual trnasmission. So i guees i need to screw of the shift knob, and then? What else is different from the automatic? I guess it might be more difficult to take it out with gearbox because of the shift lever. And what do I have to wathch out for when I change the transmissions? How to I handle the maual one best with its clutch, what do I have do?

a search couldn't realy answer these specific queations, I hope someone can answer.

I checked the FAQ, they mainly deal witht the wiring, but i am not chaning it, that's not my problem. What i am asking about is how to best get the engine and gearbox out (only did it on an automatic so far) And how to change the gearbox with out messing up the clutch and so.

Removing the engine with the tranny is the easiest method, as opposed to pulling one or the other seperate. In my experience, the 5sp is actually easier to deal with since there are no cooling lines and linkage and plugs to deal with, plus it's lighter.

Simply remove the shifter from inside the car, should be like 4 bolts. Disconnect slave cylinder from the tranny (do not disconnect hydraulic hose from the cylinder). Unplug reverse lights and speedo cable. Drain gear lube. Take off the driveshaft. Support the rear and take down the tranny mount/crossmember. Lower the back end of the tranny. Proceed to pull engine w/ tranny attached.

wow thanks a lot sounds like usefull informatin. Put is it realy necessary to drain the liquid? i know the automatic fluid runs out once you remove the driveshaft and tip the gearbox. But once i detache the gearbox from the eninge as soon as both is uninstalled, what do i have to look out for, regarding the alignment of the clutch?

drain the transmission fluid or else it will pour everywhere when you disconnect the driveshaft. As for the clutch...no idea, never done one before.
