I'm putting together a 7mge. i sewered my gf into coming to help me work as i was assembling the head. She was putting in the lifter valves into the head and managed to force the last one in, after puttin the cams in to check the clearance, i found out that little bugger is stuck down. My question is, how to i get it to pop back out, i heated up the area a bit with a propane torch but didnt want to get crazy. theres no real room to pry it up from below. Is there any tricks anyone knows that doesnt involve me pulling the head off? If i do have to pull the head off, can i reuse the same head gasket? Both block and head were machined and cleaned so all i did was spray some brake clean and torqued it down in 3 steps.

EDIT: as a note, i have a another whole set of valves, springs, keepers, ect so damaging this one is not an issue

Any suggestions is appreciated.
Thank you
Cameron

seen this before it's stuck on the aluminum place the head on a soft surface like a pillow. Then place it on your bed using a wooden dowel hit the top of the bucket with a hammer hard enough to compress the spring it should pop up. Grab the edges of the bucket with good pliars and twist and pull it out. Now remove the spring and valve lightly sand the bore with 120grit till the bucket moves freely

I would think you would be able to do the same process on the car just make sure the piston for that cyl is down. It seems like it off center, if you can get it to go down low enough it should free itself from the housing and center out. You may have to hit it a few times to get it to wear the lip away that was created my smashing the aluminium from crooked insertion- mmmmmmmm You should try some crooked insertion on your gf for messing it up. lol

ill give this a try, basically just push it down further and hope it snaps back up? and she will be punished.. :idhitit: repeditively

its a graphite? its the gasket that came with an ultrom complete gasket set. similar to a stock gasket. hopefully the above method will work but if not is it reuseable? i will beable to pull the head without disturbing the gasket and extra extra care will be taken. Any opinions?

A graphite head gasket can not be resused.

if you end up neading a gasket let me know i have stock ones for cheap

If all your doing is fixing a stuck bucket I dont see why you need to take the head off though. Unless i am understanding it wrong and u have a valve stuck against one of its guides?
