Idle air control valve

So my Supra won't idle and dies and I was told it was the idle air control valve. The one I picked up looks different than the one I had in it though... The one I had in it has the tube the one that I picked up as a replacement does not. Can I use this one without the tube or does the tube move? I can't really see how to get the tube off any suggestions?

And I guess since I've already raised the white flag, anybody know where this tube goes?

As you probably already know, there's a valve and rubber gasket that goes between the IACV and intake manifold so not sure how that will fit even if the tube is removed. I would just look for another replacement that matches your old one.

That goes to the vsv (on the thermostat housing) which also connects to carbon canister sucking gas tank vapors.

Maybe try taking apart the old one, cleaning it, greasing it up

never tried with a supra iacv but ive done it with sr20 and skyline units iirc and some other cars
There are 2 versions of the idle speed control valve. The one that came off your car with the tube is for the normally aspirated engine and the one you picked up is for a turbo car. OldBonus is referring to the turbo car when he mentioned the spacer and check valve. You can test your original one using the method in the manual. It has what's called a stepping motor which means the sequence of coil activations either moves the cone in or out thus controlling the air bleed in. A computer can do this quickly but the test is a little slower since you are energizing the coils individually. If your original stepping motor is bad, it might be possible to swap them using your original housing. Be sure and clean any gunk that's in the cone chamber as this can block airflow. Here's a link to the online testing method for idle speed control valves. Click here to go there.
IACV for both MA70 NA and turbo are both stepper motor design, unipolar to be specific. The stepper motors very RARELY fail. Usually it is caked crap in the body.
