Intake System (ThomsonCharm Inspired)

first, i'd like to thank the n/a owners for showing pics and giving information on parts.

it took me about 40 minutes to remove and install everything. came out flawless. the intake pipe from a v6 accord fit perfectly. it had 2 nipples for vacuum hoses, but one of the two was removed after trimming the pipe. my piping would have been longer if i had not shaved off a small piece at the end though. but the smaller piping benefited me because i was able to make a small bracket that came with the v6 piping and hold the intake down firmly so it wouldn't touch the car or any small piping underneath.

after i installed the piping, plugged the rear vacuum with a breather, and attached the front vacuum with an adaptor and onto the pipe, i started the engine. at first, the engine sounded like a vacuum. noticeably louder and sounded like it was sucking a lot of air.

took it for a test drive and gave it a few wide open throttles. it was noticeably louder from inside the car as well. the throttle felt smoother at the lower RPMs and you can really feel a difference once you go past 4000 RPMs. nothing major but a smoother feeling.

here are some pics...

and here's a link to my album of the intake parts if anyone is interested...

i made a small video for anyone who is interested in what it sounds like.

very nice!

how much $ did it all cost, where did you get the filter?

thanks for the pics
everything cost me about $200. i found that nopionline.com had the cheapest price for the apexi intake for the mkiii turbo. their price is ~$130 whereas everyone else sells it for around $150.

i got the filter in 3 days after ordering it because apexi usa's main office is in orange.
Looks good man!!:)

How is the quality of the APEXi Intake? I want to get an intake later on and still deciding on which one to get?
The only reason I'm waiting later to get it is because I want the Blitz Power Meter first to see what HP gains I'm actually getting:D

Does anyone know if the Blitz SUS intake is made also for the MKIII Turbo? Thanks
G
I've got the Blitz intake on my NA. The car had it on there when I bought the car but I have put the stock airbox on to see the difference and the difference is huge. You will notice a change in lowend but the biggest above 3500rpm's. I'm going to change the piping with some muffler piping and then coating it with ceramic paint. I found this at www.socalsupras.com under articles. The guy who did this mod said that his design ran cooler than the AEM's and he noticed a small difference than with the AEM. He did it all with $25 for just the pipe. But back to the Blitz SUS Intake. It's great!!! Never gets clogged and it pretty cool. Stainless stell mesh. It's awesome!!!

i love look of the blitz SUS intake. i might go with that later in the future.

rw3, was your car noticeably louder inside the car also? kind of like a low howl as you're going above 3500 RPMs?
G
There is a howl. If you turn off the radio and put it in neutral and listen...you will hear a suction. I personally like the sound of it and it helps tremendously with performance. I haven't been able to hear or see an Apex in action but I've heard great things about those also.
lookin good toysupra1...

i've also got the blitz filter... i picked it because i like its looks... got it for 180 at toysport in gardena in case you're wondering...i wouldn't say that i noticed a big difference in performance but there is a difference... the power is more smooth throughout the rpm range and the power stays constant till redline... the noise is louder than stock after 5k rpms... and sometimes there's a little sucking air sound in the lower rpm's when driving... i have it on the stock piping...

rw3, is yours auto or 5-speed?
G
I've got an auto and about ready to go turbo.....

be sure to keep us updated on the progess.:)
G
I'll keep you updated. I'm looking at doing it soon and if i don't have the time, the only time I'll have after that will be in the summer. So if not soon, the summer. It looks more like the summer though.

hey man,
looks nice...i only did the intake so far...looking at the piping tho..can ya elaborate on how ya did it.. things i notice in ur pic. you have the apexi filter hooked to something or it looks that way by a metal bracket on the top left..if your in the front of the car looking at it. i noticed mine bumps around abit i dont have it held down at all..what'd u use? also. did u hafta cut the pipe shorter...put it inside the maf..or what>? and did u just cover up the other nipple? i think thats all for now...i need more info tho b4 i go slap a pipe on there....it'll probly add weight..i dont knwo if there is a perf. benefit with it and thats why i have yet to do it.((oh yea..and i just spend like 500 bucks on paintball stuff..but its a good way to take our aggression!:D )) ill have an exhaust on soon((MX i think)) and the piping if you guys reccommend it. best of luck to you. did you try it out yet with both the piping and the filter on? i forget , sorri if you already said. talk to everyone later
merry xmas.

i'm not sure if the pipe adds any benefit to performance...but it does look a lot cleaner than the stock rubber arm. don't worry about weight, the pipe is extremely light.

believe it or not, the metal bracket came with the intake pipe (which is for a 94+ v6 accord). i just bent it into shape so it could help hold the intake in place. it worked perfectly. it keeps the filter in place and not bouncing around and hitting the small piping underneath.

yea, i trimmed the piping a little bit on the bottom end. look at the link to my intake pics. it will give you an idea and help explain why i trimmed the pipe.

on the second picture, look at the nipple right before the silicon hose connector. that vacuum hose is connected to the one on the left of the engine. i just used an adaptor and got a bigger hose and attached it onto the piping. again, look at my intake pics for reference.

oh, and merry christmas to you and everyone else!

sounds good man
i looked at the pics quick and that'll help me if i go that route.

hey im starting a new thread called brake lockup ..please read it and tell me if any of you guys have experienced this. thanks!
Hey toysupra1, where did you get the accord pipe? Does this look like it'll work: http://www.procarparts.com/store/displaydetails.cfm?pid=AI-acd96v6 ?

Thanks.
i got my piping from www.nopionline.com. the brand is apc and it only came with the piping. that picture looks somewhat similar to mine, sans the filter. the box that it came with was labeled "94+ Accord V6."

here's a picture of mine for you to compare it to...

very funny josh. go blow out a turbo or two.:p
Any idea if that accord piping will work for a MKIII?

I'm getting few up with the stock accordian piping....its getting old and starting to crack, and I really don't wanna pay the dealer a few hundred for new restrictive piping. if I can pick up an accord intake for 45 bucks....that would be sweet

BTW: where did you get the silicon adapter hose? I haven't been able to find that stuff anywhere
