Is this normal for stock 1/4 mile times?

I just recently bought a '93.5 Supra TT and ran it at the track last week. The best I could do was a [email protected] with 2.334 60 ft. Is this normal for a stock car? Motor Trend got a [email protected]! I drop the clutch around 3500-4000rpm and the tires spin until 5000 where it catches (still in 1st gear). Even if my launches suck, shouldn't my trap speed be a little higher? Does the fact that I have bald tires contribute to my problem? If anyone has any idea to help solve my situation, please tell me.

What was the weather like? Also, slow shifting can affect your trap speeds . . . if it was really hot outside, your trap speed might be a little lower 'cause of that. Is your car stock? Also, putting your car on a dyno. might help explain things a little better if needbe.
Don't take this the wrong way but those times suck. The car will do mid 13's, although mine did low 13's. Anyhow try slipping the clutch and buy some tires.
As Other members reply weather conditions affect....get New Tires ....Do a good Burn Out....and make sure you either disconect the track control system or disconect the fuse...You should get a mid to high 13's....good luck

By the way that suck!!:)

DO NOT DO A BIG BURNOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may want to chirp the tires a tiny bit but dont get them wet and dont whitesmoke them. Totally pointless on street tires. Sometimes it makes street tires have less grip.

AZSupTT, before you give advise fucking understand that there are assholes like me who know alot more about the subject and have no problem telling people they are dipshits................All you end up doing is confusing people who actaully wanted someone who knows what they are talking to give them a straight answer!
I don't care what you think or how much you know

I'm telling what it works for me and I think will benefit him base on what he post.....I got Nito 555 and once they are hot they launch better..and they are street tires.....

brad's right, burning out most street tires is pointless, you're just reducing the life of 200 dollar tires and putting on a show. just drive through the water box and spin em quick to get the water off them. if you do a huge burnout, you pull all the water out of the rubber and the tire gets really slick, usually your launches suffer too. but if it works for you, by all means go for it.

sounds to me like you need to work on the driving / launching technique a little bit, that makes all the difference especially on a turbo car. once you get the launch down, your 60' will fall and the more time you make up on the 60' the et's will decrease drastically.
I raced at Sacramento Raceway. As for the weather, it was hot. I'm guessing around 90-100 degrees in the afternoon. Still as the day went on and it cooled, I didn't see any faster times. I think I'm shifting pretty quick since I chirped third gear. Should I be slipping the clutch or dropping it? And at what rpm? My car is a '93.5 and it has only 35k miles on it. Also my boost guage was reading .78hkPa on my Blitz Dual Turbo Timer, and I'm guessing that should be around 12psi. Guess I need to practice a little more.
I can explain your ET. Get that 2.3 down to 2.0 and your looking at around a 13.6. Don't know about the mph. It generally doesn't change that much compared to the ET. Traction control off right?
yea, traction control is off. Does it help more if I pull the traction control fuse out? I'm also thinking of getting wider tires, 245/45/17 in front and 275/40/17 in back on stock rims. Will this improve my 60 ft? In addition, will this improve or mess up my handling?
Yea if you pull the trac fuse completely out under the hood you lose the timing retard and maintain higher boost through the shifts, Im not sure if that works as well with a 6speed or not, but with an Auto the boost doesnt really drop at all through the shift, a little mean on the tranny, but you can do that for a long time before you run into any problems... and the 6speed can take more abuse than the Auto as far as I know.. which I have.. I cant wait til I get my SP Transmission :D

And about the burnout, if you are on Drag Radials its one thing, but Z-Rated street tires are DESIGNED TO NOT get hot in the first place.. speed rating and tire heat are related ya know... ever notice drag radials are not Z-Rated?.. I little burnout shouldnt hurt too much though, just dont act like you have slicks on the car :D ... like they said, just enough to get the water off the tires.. good luck, be sure to post updated times if everything goes well for you :)
I would make sure you don't have a boost leak, even if you built the right mount of boost (which .78 is ~11.4 PSI, about right) you may have a leak which would cause the car to run very rich and slower.

I would consider changing the plugs (if they haven't been changed in a while) as well, you may have a slight miss causing the car to run slower. Next time you go to the track reset the ECU as well, it may have had the timing retarded which would cause slow times.

Don't Listen to anyone, those times sound right, it always b/c the track, I'm BPU ran a best of 13.9 at palmdale, then ran a 12.04 at pomona. Its always the track or the weather or some bullshit.

2 RIP
I really hope it's the track and not my car. Either way, I just recently changed the plugs, coolant, and transmission oil just to be sure. I'm also ordering new tires today. I hope everything else is ok. I'll keep you guys posted on how I do with the new tires. Thanks guys!
about your mph-

with a 6-speed especially your mph changes a lot with your 60' time. at bpu when i had like a 2.5 60' i would usualy run around a 113 trap, but then when i cut a low 2 sec 60' my traps would just up to 116 or so. and also make sure you take it all the way to redline and DONT shift out of 4th gear. like they said reset the ecu after every run, it will also help your mph.
BoostAddict.......mph definitely seems low. If you are all stock....few things to do.....definitely pull trac fuse.....try to get there with no gas if possible.and run 104 unleaded....if so...let car idle for about 5 minutes.....then shut it off then resetecu. If you dont run race gas..reset it before first run definitely....and you can do it after every run if you want but not definitely necessary unless you mph significantly drops on back to back runs. Shift at redline each gear....stay in 4th going into red through traps....Shift as quick as possible. If tires are bald...could beissue regarding traction..so new tires would be good. Once you get new tires..play with tire pressure a little bit in the rear..lowering to see if helps with spinning. Also you can raise the front tire pressure some also.....to give less rolling resistance. As for launch ..you yourslef will have to play around with that and figure out what suits the way you drive....but would suggest trying to slip it out a little then judge when to go wot . As i said you will have to play with that. Also plugs too..but you said you changed them.so should be fine at stock level. After that if mph is still that low..check hoses and all for boost leaks etc etc. But all things mentioned above should help you out. (Gritsak) As for 60' times affecting your mph.....in 2 years i have seen no evidence of that....i can run a 2.5 60' and still pull 118-121 trap. Makes no difference if i do 1.7 or 2.5. ..but this is with my car and my experience...others may differ. All 60' affects is ET. If you shift fine through whole run and no other issues ,trap speed will be same if not extremely close to any 60' you pull. As for heating up tires....on Street tires.. definitely do one no matter what tire you have!!! Heat them up..then after you ride it out....stop and do a dry hop. Then you will be fine and they will hook. all this should help. Keep us posted. Also.take out passenger headlight...and air filter at track..if still stock filter.

And BRAD MAYO...enough is enough...before you go shooting your mouth off to other people who give good personal experience advice....you may want to concentrate on driving your own car a little better......Then maybe you could actually get into the 11s. And for the record .....i personally have and will put on street tires......smoke them until there is a cloud of white smoke....and break out your times all day long...Enough said. If any doubt....Bring it. Then you can actually have a timeslip with a 11 second run on it ...or i have about 20 in a box..i could send ya one if ya like???.That is about the only way you will ever get one it seems. So either put up or shut up. Many would appreciate it i am sure :)

Amen!
I am stock and have run a best of 102 mph...of course I also need a tune up and have 107k miles on my car...it's an auto as well, but hope you find the problem if there is one...maybe we just didn't get the ringers! :( got the ones that just barely pasted specs for sale. who knows.
My RE730's just came in yesterday, and I hope to put them in about a week or so. My friend's mechanic said that because of the low miles that I have, '93.5 w/35k, the turbos could be a little messed up. He said that letting the car sit will cause the oil drain out of the turbos, and when you start it back up, it hurts the turbos because it isn't lubricated. Any thoughts on that? Is there any way to check if my stock turbos are okay without taking them out?
Yes...make sure you let the car idle for at least 30 second before you start boosting. Letting it warm up to full operating temperature wouldn't hurt either, but personally i just wait about 30 seconds.

and just in case someone has an opposing opinion on this as a warning I will proclaim before all

I KNOW JACK SHIT!!!:D :D :D
