If anyone comes across a good deal on a number one turbo, but needs to put it in the number two location, it is possible. To do so, you must swap the compressor housings. It was pretty easy to do so. Here are a couple of pics of the process. I figured I'd post them in case anyone would like a little reference in the future.

Here's the turbo with both housings.

Now you have to remove the clip that holds the compressor housing on (I drew a small arrow pointing to it). A large pair of needle-nose pliers and a flathead screwdriver should do the trick well enough.

Once the clip is removed you can use a hammer to gently tap off the compressor housing, then you can swap housings and reassemble.

Here's a pic of my compressor wheel that got chipped when my turbo blew.

that's a pretty cool idea. i'm not trying to flame, i'm just curious on why would you put do this? will it make a lil more hp then the stock ones?? i always thought the second turbo was bigger than the front so why would you put a smaller one on the back? are you runnin ttc or seq?? i'm just curious cause i have never heard of anyone doing this. it looks like it would work though.

The turbos and housings are the same size, but the number 1 housing only fits up front and the number 2 housing only fits in the back.

It won't make more horsepower than stock. I did this because I came across a 30K mile number 1 turbo for $100, but I needed a number 2 turbo. I was in seq, but since i have the turbos out, I just converted to permanant ttc. Others have done this before numerous times.
