Kevo's Black 1998 Supra TT 6-speed, low mileage inside

I have decided to make a thread to document my Supra. It isn't as much of a "build thread" (as I won't be modding it extensively), but more of a journal to post pictures (I like to take photos as a hobby), and whatever mods I do end up doing along the way.

A little background information. I had been fascinated with the JZA80 ever since I started going to car meets when I was 14 with my older friend in his beat up, riced out Toyota Paseo. I didn't have a very large budget when I was in high school, so I bought a 1991 MKIII Supra Turbo when I was 17 years old, sold it when I was 19 to move out to Colorado, and bought a beater Ford Explorer. Saved up my money and bought an STI when I was 21. Have missed Supras ever since! They are in my blood. I decided to finally sell the STI and go for the car that I had always REALLY wanted.

This time around I finally had the opportunity and funding to buy a JZA80 Supra. I searched for months trying to find the best low mileage example, found a few I was about to purchase, was a day away from buying a different one when an ad popped up for a black, bone stock, NEVER modified, 1998 Twin Turbo 6-speed Targa with only 13.9k miles, and only 30 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME. I nearly had a heart attack, called the guy at midnight because I was so excited (Hi Stefan. :wavey:), and made the deal on the car the next day. The original owner is a woman who drove it up until 2006, who then sold it to an older car collector that never drove it and kept it in storage, then 4 years later or so, was sold to the latest owner, who trailered it back to Texas and also stored it on a battery tender and under a car cover. The car has been driven 1,600 miles since 2006, only to keep it in good mechanical condition. Needless to say, it's as close as you'll find to a like-new JZA80(MKIV) Supra.

Some crazy, coincidental facts about my Supra. This car entered the U.S. at the port in Jacksonville, FL, where I was born. Then, the car was bought new in 98' from a lady at a dealership in Fort Myers, FL, where my parents and family all lived/still live. Then it was bought by the most recent owner, who as I said, lives a town over from me. It's almost like the car followed me my whole life... just waiting for me to find it.. Needless to say, I'm in love with this car.

Just a few pictures for now. Haven't had the time to take many pictures of my own, so the first bit are taken by the previous owner.

Enjoy.

Nice Supra.

I would clean that overflow coolant hose as it looks like it leaks on the top of the radiator and under the cap as well.

Other than that the paint and interior looks great, very OEM and clean.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys. I can't answer EVERYONE'S comments, so I wanted to say that I appreciate you all!

It's cleaned up. Not leaking, so it may have in the past. And thanks for the compliment!

Congrats on the purchase! That's a very nice example.

Stefan, hmm is this the Dutch guy who moved to the states?
I remember a Stefan from supras.nl who bought a very low mile black supra in the USA a few years ago. If this is him, you've bought it from a real supra-enthusiast :)

Casper
Nope, different Stefan, at least that I'm aware of. Lives in my area.

Beautiful car man! btw I got my fields replacement harness in the mail the other day, that thing looks niiiccee, can't wait to throw the bcc on!
Awesome, let me know how the install on the Fields replacement harness goes!

The pictures look familar. Was the car for sale on here? Car looks amazing.
Yes it was for sale on here, for about 24 hours. :D Thank you.

Congrats! What are your plans?
They keep changing. One day I want to put the cover on and leave it for awhile, the next I'm scoping the internet for mods, being my mod hungry self. I need rehab.

But right now, as for noise/power, I'm planning on just doing an exhaust (turboback, more than likely, although I've thought about just a catback for noise), intake, BCC, and a Fields replacement harness. The harness is so I don't have to mess with the stock ECU whatsoever, and can go back to complete OEM.

As for exterior, stock body of course. I plan to pick up some nice wheels/tires (to be announced ;)), and coilovers. Once again, all easily returnable to stock.

Again, this could all change. As it's my first and only JZA80, of course I want something more than stock. If I can somehow come up with the money for another higher-mileage DD Supra within the next year, I may keep this girl 100% stock, although that is doubtful.

Do you plan to store it, or do you plan to drive it?
Both, I guess. I have it insured as a collector vehicle, so I can only drive it 3,000 miles annually.

It's rare to see a supra with low mileage, even rarer that its original black paint looks that good!
Thanks! I freaked out when it popped up for sale. I was looking at a couple cars that were halfway across the Country, including an Alpine Silver, and a Super White car. When I first decided to get a Supra again, I ACTUALLY wanted a black car the most, and liked the ivory interior the best as well. Well yeah... then this popped up. 0_0

1) Peter Blach will soon be on his way to your home, checkbook in hand.

2) I will beat him there so I can take you out first.

Congrats on the purchase. The car looks AMAZING.
Lol. Don't know their names, but I've already had more than a couple people PM me asking if I'd sell.

BTW GUYS, no, it's not for sale.

What a find, very cool how you traced the history of the car also. Don't do anything that cannot be undone to her, this is a piece of history.
Definitely not doing anything that can't be undone!

Holy crap... feels like a time warp back to 1998!! Keep her stock!!
I really do warp back into 1998 everytime I walk into my garage.

Anyways, thanks again for the love. Stayed tuned for updates.

I am leaving for a trip to Japan on the 12th of this month, and will be staying for 2 1/2 weeks. There is an Up Garage, Autobacs, and a YellowHat only a few minutes from where I'll be staying. Crossing my fingers there are some nice Supra parts, so I can empty out my bank account.

Damn, that's one hell of a find. I bet it was hella expensive too, but worth every penny. Love these stories of people who really love the car...

Miss mine EVERY SINGLE DAY. Nothing I've driven so far has replaced that experience.
