So I was out cruising tonight and this noise started as I was making a hard right turn (sliding a little bit on a wet street). My first thought was oil starvation and subsequent rod knock as the noise was fairly loud at first. So I parked it and shut her down, dumped an extra quart of oil in (never leave home without it) and then started her up again and babied her home. During the drive home I noticed the sound was not constant, but would change volume and rhythm and fluctuated with RPM. During the entire 15 mile ride home Oil Pressure never appeared low and the temp. never moved. I pulled her in the garage and could barely hear anything at idle and took this video. I took the cam covers off and nothing looked out of place with the cams and I didn't see any out of place shims.

Give it to me straight, Doctor.

Thanks, Jake

EDIT- The video is kind of big but I wanted the quality to be as good and clear as possible.

video is not working.
At what RPM is the "knock" most audible?
Is it like a clicking, ticking, or clunking noise?
Fast or not fast?
Can you hear it at idle?

More of a clicking noise. When I first heard it I could hear it very cleary at idle and while driving it home. While I was driving I noticed that it wasn't regular, the sound would fade but never went totally silent. Once I got it home I could barely hear it at idle, but when I revved the engine some I could clearly hear a clicking noise.

I have valve tap too. I thought it was rod knock until it loosened up. I can still hear it when the engine is cold.

I'm gonna throw some 15w50 Mobil1 (was 10w30) in tomorrow and see if it quiets down. I just need a rebuild. haha

Before you think that it is rod knock i would go ahead and check the crank pulley bolt. Mine came loose once after my rebuild and sounded kinda like rod knock.

Same here. I had to use some blue loctite to keep the bastard from backing out.
