So I finally finished my ride. Redid the wiring in the dash and it's in the shop for a repaint from white to silver. All I want to know is how I launch this puppy from a deadstop since it's an automatic. I got a good deal on this theft recovery so don't laugh and call me a sissy boy. I can launch my old '86 Alfa spider and get the wheels to screetch a bit, but I don't know how the NA auto tranny will hold if I rev in neutral and throw it into drive. I guess I'm trying to say is that I don't know how to race with an auto...sad, but true. If you all could help me, that would be great. I know that there's got to be something more than just dropping my foot on the gas when it's go time. When I do that, I hit 60mph in 9 seconds.
The best way i found to launch is to hold the brake down as much as possible, then floor it. it should hit 2500-2700rpm and whenever you want to go just let off the brake. But if you did want to do a nuetral dump then yes the tranny can take it
its better to hold down the brake and rev up to 2500 then launch. nuetral to gear will wear down or even break the bearings on the transmission mount...not a good thing. you'll also have quicker response launching with the brake.
When i went to the track i revved and held at about 3k RPMs and let the clutch out but the track was sticky and im on a racing clutch. I think the best thing to do on the street is about 2 RPMs or so and dump the clutch maybe feather the gas a little if your not hooking up right away and then floor it all the way. Maybe try a technique called powershifting between the gears. You have to be fast shifting to do this but what you do is you DONT let off the gas just keep it floored even as you switch gears BUT do it fast dont bounce off your rev limiter. This should pick you up a little but of speed maybe practice it at lower RPMs unless you are already fast then go ahead and give it a try.
Just wanted to make sure that the above technique i showed you IS hard on your clutch and tranny. Like i said i have a racing clutch in mine and it is fine about that and the other thing my mechanic was telling me the next thing he saw breaking on my car IF ANYTHING would be the Driveshaft because the Driveshafts on the NAs Is just like a big piece of rubber connecting the shafts together. BUT he said this because of how hard my clutch grabs and what not. Just a little warning and things to look out for. BTW the driveshafts on the TTs are different they are alot stronger.
