So here it is... I'm just now starting nursing school to be an RN, as well as my girlfriend. Once we both get through it and get jobs I want to start looking for a Supra. I don't know much about them, considering, I've only seen ONE in my whole life (going down the opposite side of the interstate). I don't want a Supra because they are so sought after, but because ever since I was little, I wanted one. When I was young, I wanted to buy a 7th gen Celica and then buy a TT MKIV 6 Speed Supra. I have the Celica:

For the Supra, I will buy one that is bone stock and has low miles. I will keep the car forever and plan on babying it it's whole life. My main question is pretty much everything about the cars: What's the best year to buy, defects in years, targa top, what region to buy from? I would like to know EVERYTHING you guys are willing to tell me. It's going to be a little while before I actually buy one, but I want to know what I'm buying when I do...

Thanks!!

I can't speak for anyone else here, but I advise you spent several months searching through the many threads. SF has all the information you need to answer your questions. All you have to do is use the search feature. Once you spend the time and still have questions, then ask. Good luck.

There's just so much to say about a supra. Honestly searching is your best bet bc 1 thread won't cover everything. All your answers can be found in a search like the previous poster if you can't find the answer feel free to ask.

^^ Good advice. I have been doing the same thing ever since I have joined. I am really close to having enough money to buy a Supra and I just went to the search feature and typed in everything I wanted to know. I found most of the information I was looking for and when I didn't, I asked the question. Just remember (as previously mentioned) search first, then ask the question.

Here is a link to the search feature for ya. Have fun.

I just want to add that babying it seems against its very nature, at least to me. Make sure it's in good shape and then beat the shit out of it to really enjoy the essence of what the Supra is all about. Otherwise, all you get is the "how it looks" part.

Just to throw in I believe 97 and 98 models with vvti have weaker rods than the 93 to 96 models. I believe its true but search for it to make sure. Just one thing to keep in mind is how deep your pockets are bc these cars are not cheap and once you get the hp bug you will want to modify the car. I said the same thing about babying my supra once I got it and that maybe lasted 20 mins and I was on it and loving it. Lol

^ This.
Buying a low mile stock TT Supra to 'baby it' is just retarded unless you're that sort to just want something stock original and perfect to sit in the garage and look pretty.
But that same kind of thinking would have you marrying a teenage supermodel, only to never consummate the marriage for the sake of keeping her hymen intact. In doing so, you're an idiot and missing the damn point, IMHO. Buy a car that's sorted out, makes good power, and enjoy it!

Only the '98 NA's got VVTi in the US, and yes that engine has the weaker rods. The JDM 2JZ-GTE has the same beefy rods as it's predecessor, only the VVTi 2JZ-GE got the wimpy rods, and again, that only came in the 1998 NA here in the states.
I know you were just trying to help, but why not search and confirm your advice as fact first, instead of offering flawed information that you know might be wrong and telling the OP to check on it himself?

You're dead-on about the HP bug though. There are a lot of cars that are cheaper to modify than the Supra, but few are as rewarding to modify.
