Hey guys, I know this is an old thread... but I thought I would just ask in here rather than starting a new one!

Had the car ('00 VVT-i RZ) die on me 3 times randomly. I'm thinking it is a dodgy AFM/MAF sensor.

How do we go about testing this? Basically, car would die... and wouldn't start for a good 20 minutes later. Happened at 10km/hr, at 70km/hr - so I'm not 100% what else it could be (coil packs, no. 1 speed sensor, etc.).

Is there a method to test it so I know if it is faulty to just buy a new one - I realise a good way of testing it would be to swap it out with one I know works however this problem is intermittent - doesn't happen all the time, so really I don't think it will be conclusive.

Kind regards,

Paul

I was getting codes 24 and 31 ( AFM and MAF ), so I cleaned MAF with MAF cleaner then put it back on. Now Supra won't start. Cranks but then immediately dies. Checked the intake connections. Everything is tight. Getting Trac and check engine lights. Took off MAF sensor plug and Supra starts right up. Don't know what is going on.

I know this is an old thread but I'm having similar issues... Tried a new MAF and no luck. Car rpms cut out around 5k rpms and once off the gas car almost shuts off. I've checked for vacuum leaks, checked intake, pretty much evertyhing. Anyone with experience in the Miami/Dade county area??
