misfiring system?

Does anyone know about something called a "misfiring system"? I don't know if it really exists or not, but I was told that it is used in WRC rally cars that help the cars maintain their exit speed out of a corner, or something like that. If anyone knows if it exists and if it does, what is it used for, how it works, etc.
