One of my winter CAD projects...

I've been working with Wilwood and several
other brake and machining companies to develop
a MK2 front big brake kit.

Needless to say, not much external interest
to mfg them, so I've done the RFQ's.

NOTE: *** 16" wheels are required ***

Today I received some pricing, so I'll present
the kit details and it's requirements.

The END configuration is this:

Wilwood 4 piston (1.75")

12" diameter, 1" thick rotors (12-3/16 possible)

CNC machine custom T6061 Aluminum rotor adapters
(anodized) (.0005 tolerance)

CNC machine caliper brackets (anodized)
May opt for stainless.

NAS bolt hardware (aircraft grade)

The entire setup retains the stock wheel offset.

I believe it's a 26% increase in braking torque.
This is serious braking power.

What is included in my kit:
Rotor Adapters
Caliper Mounting brackets
NAS Bolts
Parallel ground adjustment shims

What is NOT included, which I will supply
common part numbers which you can buy
and utilize the warranty, etc:

Wilwood calipers (Summit Racing has good pricing)

Rotors - several suppliers to choose from.
Lowest price, great quality is $60 each. Can
even spend up to $250 each, if you want.

Brake Pads.

Estimate price is $275-$300 for my kit. $300 is
based on the first quote of mounting hardware
I received. NAS bolts are expensive.

To complete the kit, you will need Wilwood calipers,
brake pads and rotors. The least cost option is approximately $450. There are some Wilwood vendors
that are open to better pricing.

This creates an estimated $750-800 front big brake kit
for the MK2. Considering that no one would even
venture to make one, and the Honda kits are $800+,
this is an excellent price.

This also gives anyone the ability to buy the base kit
first for a low cost, then finish later (so you don't
have to shell out big $).

Most likely, this is a one time project. Once I'm done with this project, I doubt I'll make more.

If you are *seriously* interested, contact me directly.

No pictures available, as a one off production would
cost a minimum $600. I will have a full prototype
in the next week or so.

Anyone interested in this kit?? You will not find a kit like this at such an affordable price ever again. KVR wants $2400 for this kit.

I'm probably going to run a 13" x 1.25" rotor with the 4piston Dynalite IIs. Should work rather well. :)

Thanks Jim, you da man!

FYI. There are 15 sets requested.

I'm really impressed with the response.

These babies going to fit with the offset on your Simmons' Mr.
Malloy?

Based on the rotor and caliper specs you describe your brakes will be better than the MkIV. :D Killer.

Yea man , close call, but it should work. If not, the 12 will still be an incredible upgrade.

So, I achieved mondo wheel lip AND big brakes. Something that wasnt supposedly possible.

I sure get lucky sometime. :)

I'm intrested as well, but how much longer would you be able to produce these kits?

As of today, I have requests for 18 sets.

In general, most of the core group of people I
thought would be interested, have made their requests.

Beyond this kit production, it will clearly be based
on demand. And it requires approximately 10 sets.

Pragmatically, I believe it will take a *long time* to get a
solid 10 requests in the future. I base this on buying
behavior of MK2 owners and performance parts/group buys.

I could have fewer kits made, but the price goes up
quite a bit. The main reason is CNC machine setup costs
and finishing costs.

Okay, thanks. I'll be working on my car for a while as it continues to give me some reason to go to work everyday....but I can't afford much right now. Maybe there will be ten people out there later... Hope so.

The Celica and Celica Supra of these years use the same
brake components, so they should work.

The base kit will be around $300US, so that translates to $475CDN.

I'm only making as many as requested this time around. Future production completely depends on demand and quantity.

I'd like to get one, because I get my turbo motor in a couple of days. So, the car will have a bit more balls. I just won't have much money for a month or two, so if you happen to have one laying around when I get the money that would be cool. Mabye like at the end of the month I could send you a deposit or something, not sure.

Thnx for the help,

-Shane
