The gear ratio is different... 3.76 for the TT Auto, 4.27 for all of the NA cars with or without LSD. If you're keeping your stock transmission, it should be fine until it gives up under the stress of more power.

Check MKIV.COM site, section where it shows you how to read your vin number. I dont remember but the letter combination on the vin will allow you to find out if your car has lsd or not. No, not all MKIV's came with lsd.How can you tell if your N/A have LSD? Do all MKiV come with LSD??
With the VIN a dealer can run a inquiry on the car and tell you if it came with it though. The old 'jack it up and turn the wheels, if they both turn the same direction it's got it' doesn't work with the factory Torsen LSD's on the MkIV's, but if you turn the driveline and they both turn the same direction, you should have it. All Turbos came with LSD, NA's were hit and miss. Seems like most of them had open diffs though from what I've heard on Forums over the years.Check MKIV.COM site, section where it shows you how to read your vin number.
