Heading home from work last night I got the attention of a guy riding a sport bike. We played a little cat & mouse until we reached a light. I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I could tell by the way it sounded it was a 600cc but that was about all I knew. There were no cars in front of us or behind so though what the hell.. I tached up for a monster launch. The guy looked over at me probably thinking WTF is this guy doing?!?!? The light turns green and I come out of the hole at 6k with a good bit of tirespin. Without looking back I bang into 2nd with a nice bark. I ride out 2nd and he's wayyyyyyyyyy back. I'm thinking he wasn't racing because I expected him to put up a much better fight.. He eventually pulls even with me and motions for me to follow him. We both pull into a gas station and the first thing he says as soon as he gets his helmet off is 'That thing is fuuuuckinnn FAST!!!!' LOL He proceeds to tell me I totally caught him off guard with the launch etc... We chat for a few minutes and decide to do a few runs just for the hell of it. He's riding a '97 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6E with a few very minor mods. I'm thinking it should be a good run as they mid 11's around 120MPH with a good rider.

First run from a stop: I'm honking off the counts and it threw me off a little. I get too aggressive on the launch and spin badly. He's next to me all the way through 1st gear. I hit 2nd gear and the car bogs and he pulls about 1.5 lengths on me. Through 2nd he pulls about another .5 or so. I hit 3rd and stop his pull and start reeling him in. I let off at 120MPH and he's about .5 lengths in front of me.

Next run from a stop. I get a great launch and hold him off through 1st gear. I hit 2nd and he pulls even and slowly keeps pulling. As soon as I hit 3rd I start reeling him back in. At the top of 3rd he was at my door and I let off.

20MPH roll. On the 3rd honk he got a huge jump on me (I should've brake boosted or did a rolling-launch). Once I get well into 2nd he's about 2.5 lengths ahead. We run to about 120 or so and he's about 1 length ahead.

Last run, 40MPH roll. I brake boost and on 3 he only jumps a little less than 1 length. As soon as I hit 3rd I start reeling him in. At the top of 3rd he's front tire is about even with my rear tire.

We both coast down and he gives me the thumbs up and takes off. I pull a U-turn and head home with a big ass smile. :D

I was running 17psi on what would work out to be about 94.5 octane. I had just a touch of Xylene in the tank mixed in with pump gas from the previous days datalogging/tuning session. I probably could've bumped up the boost another pound or 2 but I always error on the safe side. The car is running pretty damn good. The cooler weather is helping a lot!

nice runs but that bike is a low 12 second bike if that low and usually a good beginner bike. Its the 6R's that are the ones to look out for.

All the info I've read about the bike puts it at 11.5 - 11.7 @ 120MPH stock. It had a few mods (he didn't go into detail) and he was riding the hell out of the bike. Very few (atleast what I've seen) riders can actually launch their bike well.

My car trapped 118MPH with less boost, on a poor tune and 90 degree weather. With the conditions we ran in, it should be trapping around 120+MPH. Either way, that was no low 12 second bike by any stretch of the imagination.

unfortunately with magazine numbers bikes are the opposite of cars. my bike should run low 11's, however most people can't get high 11's. Being that it is a beginner bike and more than likely the guy isn't experienced i would say that with him it probably runs 12's, maybe even 13's.

you said he launch the hell out of the bike? explain that.. did the front end lift up? did you hear the rev limiter?

again.. the 6E next to the YZR 600 are the lowest 600's made, and i know my bike was tested this year at 11.3 that 6E is no way in hell a 11.5 second bike.

I am not taking away from your kill.. because a kill is a kill.. i am just letting you know that you are beating a 6E or a YZF .. so yeah you got a kill on a 600.. but i know some people on this board that do the same and then run around with the idea of "i can beat 600's with ease" .. i just don't want you to get carried away with that idea..

because even though you can walk a 6E.. you will still get your ass handed to you by an R6, gixxer, 6R or a 600RR ..

there is a reason those are called SuperSports and those 6E's are sport touring

It's to bad to see so many people launch like ass on bike's, their is def a big gap between someone that know's how to launch and not bog the bike, cause I know on my R6 if I launched at like 6000 i'd bog down and almost flood out tryin to slide the clutch and crap, but if i'd launch around 8000 to 9000, i'd look like the #1 stunna... go straight up into a wheelie launching hard and just continue from their, good kill on that shitty drag racer on the bike :D

Nice races Hellbringer. Last Saturday I saw a DR-650 94 VR4 at the Indianapolis 3S gathering in action and DAMN, it pulls like nothing else. Awesome car, by far one of my favorite 3kgts on 3SI :) . Take care

Doug, don't worry, I don't have any delusions of grandeur when it comes to racing bikes. I know there are some nasty 600's running around. He mentioned he had some mods but didn't go into specifics. What would his bike typically gain with bolt-ons? As for launching, most riders I've seen will bog and walk the bike out before punching it. Others will come out of the hole too hard and fight to keep the front wheel on the ground. With a less than stellar rider, I will rip then out of the hole and they'll be playing catchup. This guy had very linear launches and was right with me. He would instantly come off the line with no drama. I was paying more attention to my launches than his, though. With me launching at 6k RPM's it made it very hard to hear what he was doing.

he could go for a sprocket change.. but that would ither increase his top speed or increase his acceleration depending on what he did.

Exhaust will help but unless he uses a jet kit (power commander for my bike) he won't see much.. those bikes wern't Fuel Injected so they need jet kits.

doug....understand that hellbringer has driven his car deeep into the 11s numerous times..when he says hes running good, that means at low 11s. Also...the launch in the Vr4 is like nothing else. Almost nothing will be able to take a Vr4 off the line because it is AWD and uses a T04 turbo, allowing it to boost off the line. I believe hellbringer uses a carbon clutch, so slippage isnt an issue. Do you easily ride 1.4-1.5 60 foots off the line? Would someone "inexperienced" be able to do that?
