My new Pro-Tech Tranny...

Hey all....

-As many of you know, my L10 tranny gave up on me late this past October...surprise...surprise.

Well, in early December I sent it out to Pro-Tech in New York. Well, it has been fully built, complete with matching 4000rpm stall. It has been installed and I'm currently going thru the "break in" period (i.e. no 30psi pulls, or launches on slicks...).

Well, I have about 320miles on the tranny and TC and well, I never knew how much the L10 tranny sucked until I experienced tihs one!

Shifts are firm and quick, cruises nice...etc. Additionally, the guys at Pro-Tech were great to work with. I received updates, hell - ever pics of the tranny as they took it apart and put it together!

Here's the run down:
Price: $2995 - tranny
TC: $1099 - custom built

Full warrenty...yes, full - I told them explicitly that I plan on putting 700+rwhp through it and run slicks They said no problem.

Additionally - they want to be present when I dyno @ high boost (30psi) - that's a good sign in my book. The builders willing to be there as we abuse it on the dyno!

AND - they the one builder (Sean) wants to meet me at E-Town this Spring to run his car and watch mine...again - shows he stands behind his product.

Granted, we'll really see what's up once I get a number of hard passes on it...stay tuned.

later on,

Jay

how do you like the 4000 stall for normal driving?

Hehe...it's tolerable - very "revvy" obviously I don't get much action until 3500-4000rpms - which is the way it has to be with such a large turbo. It's decent around town...no worse than driving a 6spd with a big 'ol turbo on it. If I brake boost....at all....no lag - gone, even if i'm only showing, say, 1-2psi :)

If you're thinking stock twins or a small single - you may be able to get away with the 3200rpm stall which should spool an SP57-63 nicely and give you better around town driving. But if you want it...the 4k stall is very streetable.

Im getting the greddy T78.
I was told that a 4600 was what I wanted. But that sounds to high.
Yeah 4600rpm is pretty damn high! I haven't heard anyone recommend...or well, use that. Biggest I've heard of in a Supra is 4200rpm.

If you're going T78, 4000rpm stall should be fine. I think you'll be real happy with it. When you're ready to upgrade, I can put you in touch with the builders at Pro-Tech if you'd like.

john will need one next week. can you get me the info thanks
glad TO SEE IT ALL WORKED OUT FOR YOU WHO installed the trany bullish if so what did they have to say about it ???
Thanks for posting details about your new tranny and TC. In my case, it's extremely timely. Is Sean the person I should call or someone else at Pro-Tech? Matt and I both need 4000 stall TC's and in my case probably a built tranny. Thanks Jay.

Here is some more info:

Pro-Tech is located in New York and yes, my main contact there was Sean. He really led the effort and knew every aspect of the project. However, all of the guys there seemed to be able to answer my questions...if they couldn't I'd just wait for Sean to call back...which he always did.

Sean is out until Monday (2/18) - so either call them now and review it with one of the other guys (which would be fine) or call on Monday and ask for Sean. They remember me and could go over all the sorted details of my busted L10 tranny I sent them!

Yes, Bullish pulled my tranny...Pro-Tech actually drove down and picked it up :) - Bullish put it back in too. So far we (myself and Ara) are very impressed with the tranny and the customer service from Pro-Tech (which is VERY important to me). Sean offered to come down to watch his tranny in action when do some 30psi pulls and when I run it at the track! -Nothing like having your engine builder and Tranny guy at the track with ya!
