My Z06 update

Well, the weather was good, and my ambition was high enough to tackle two mod projects.

The first was the CAGS Bypass...a mod that the previous owner was kind enough to give me when I purchased the car (but he had never installed). This is the device that prevents the transmission from "guiding" you into 4th gear, so that you can shift to 2nd gear any time you want. It was not difficult at all to install, once I figured out it was the TOP connector going into the transmission and not the bottom one! :sadance:

The second mod was to remove my factory BSMs (Body Side Moldings). I'd been talking myself in and out of this mod, trying to properly weigh the risk versus reward of doing it. Then, the other day I saw a gorgeous black Z06 without BSMs and that completely sealed the deal. I had purchased my fishing line and 3M adhesive remover some time ago, so it was just my nerves and the weather keeping me from getting this one done. I'm happy to say that it went fine, and was not difficult at all...just tedious.

Here are a couple pictures from the resulting look:

My apologies for the dirty car...I was rushed out of the house right after completing the mods so didn't have time to clean her properly. I was so upset with how dirty the windshield was that I grabbed a wet napkin from the restaurant we went to for lunch and was cleaning it in the mall parking lot!

I highly recommend these cars if you're looking for something different...they are really a lot of fun. :bigthumb:

Beautiful Steve, I removed my bsms' the day I brought the car home...

I need to put my CAGS in also, already got my Delrin shift knob in and ordered a Halltech TRIC Cold Air Intake, so those two items should be going in sometime next week.

Looking good, my friend!

Beautiful now just throw on some wheels slam it and you’re good to go. Might I suggest a supercharger as well? My boss had a 04 that was supercharged and let me tell you that thing is a whole different ballgame with that thing on there. Still very daily drivable as well. :)

not a bad looking car. I'd have to say that the z06 is one domestic car that i would consider owning. I could never bring myself to get into the whole domestic v8 thing even though 80% of my friends, car ethusiasts and people i ride and work on cars with are domestic guys. I LOVE the new c6 z06...just the way it was built...not even the stock power, but the build is what impresses me about it....i'd have to say I have more respect for the new z06 then the new viper. :::flame suit activated:::: :X lol. the only thing that is a downfall to me is the headlights. the pop-up headlights have always been a signature design IMO for a corvette and to change them during the same year that a great generation z06 was built seems a little off beat to me, but they are growing on me.

nice pics too. take off the date on the picture option on your camera and they will be great...i bet some people would even use them as wallpapers...the background makes them look nice and clean (of course after you wash the car, heheh :) ).

Hahaha...thanks for the kind words. However, this is a warranty friendly ride for me, so I'm afraid the supercharger (or any type of forced induction) is out. I wanted something VERY different from my Supras, which were never running for more than 6-8 months a year due to various projects. This is supposed to be a real and useful car, not just a high speed toy! ;)

In terms of lowering it, I am thinking of lowering it on the stock bolts a bit (.5 to .75" only)...but today was the first time I put it up in the air at home and damn...there isn't much room under this car relative to Supras. Since I don't plan to take it to any shops unless I have to, I'm probably going to wait a while before lowering it any.

I tend to rely on that date feature so I know when the hell I took any pics. However, you're quite right that if I want to make nicer pics I should remove that!

That BSM is something that just takes away from the car alot, it looks much nicer without them.
On a side note, have you hit the scales. I was really surprised when I weighted mine (2,990ibs with a quarter tank).

Yeah I know what you mean about the warranty. This car was brutal though still on stock long block (for a while anyway). Made me love the Z06 even more than I already did.

My boss had his lowered on the stock bolts I believe with stock chrome Z06 wheels looked good. I might try to dig up one of the crappy pics I took of it. Since he sold it :( and bought his supercharged Porsche that’s in the shop all the time

I have not weighed the car yet myself Mani, but that is largely because there is no real controversy about what it weighs...much unlike Supras. I know it weighs 3116 pounds with a full tank, and as you mentioned can weigh as little as 2990 with low fuel.

I can tell you this though...when I used the same floor jack to lift my Supra it creaked and complained a lot. With the new Z06, there were no creaks at all, and it took noticeably less manual effort to raise the car. :)

Hey Andy!

Damn...I should have thrown some A&F duds up there to amplify the pictures a bit!

I seem to have missed your birthday somewhere along the way (noticed you're 25 now)...happy belated one to you!

Yeah, this is my 2004 JDM hardtop! ;)

No sir, I've never had the pleasure of owning any RX-7's. In terms of really exciting cars, I've owned 1 Nissan 300ZX TT and 4 Supras (from stock twins to medium singles) before the Corvette. Thanks.

Noice Z06, get some CCW's and it will be horn, got any rear shots?

BTW......lol I feel like an idiot......but is there like bears and sh*t running around in the forest, how often would you guys see them? Sorry I'm an Aussie and we only have Koala's.....if you could even consider that to be a bear lol

No rear shots yesterday since the C5 seems to accumulate all the dust/dirt there and I never got a chance to clean it before leaving the house. The rear is the toughest to keep clean.

In terms of wildlife in North Bend, there is more than you could believe. It really is like living near a campground as I see deer and elk very regularly. For bears I can say I haven't seen one in 3 years, but one did wander into my neighbors yard at night while I've lived in my house. So, they are definitely nearby!
