Detonation. High compression plus high boost don't mix well. You can run low boost and get by with the stock head gasket.
NA-T head gasket
I would like a little 411 on the reason why NA need to change the compression ratio when going Turbo. Is there any reason why NA can't stay with the same compression ratio and just add the Turbo. This way there would be HP for both high and low end.

And detonation makes your cars internals go boom and then you have to pay for an expensive rebuild. So it is safer to run a low compression ratio if you are running higher boost to avoid this.
