ok i just got a motor in my uncles 88 non turbo and cant get the upper part of the gear shifter with the little ball into the shifter arm in the tranny(the one the ball goes into) im very frustrated with this so if anyone can help it would be most appreciated.
i did a search and got on the tsrm but no luck on either so please help:( :mad:

What exactly is interfering? Make sure the receptacle is in neutral and that the two pins on the housing make it into the notches on the shifter ball. Oh, and make sure you dont have the shifter turned backwards, cause it only goes in one way because of it's shape (i know its a no brainer but some people....)

i dont see any pins or notches and there is some bent metal peices on the hole the shifter ball goes into, should i just buy one of the things the ball goes into or what, there is only one bolt holding it on so it shouldnt be hard to replace if need be. i really need some help im so frustrated, everything else went in smooth but this is just giving me trouble and no else i know can do anything mechanical so please help

Theres the small ball on the very end with the bushing on it. Then theres the big ball where the shifter pivots. That big ball has a notch cut out on either side. The housing that the big ball goes into (the part on top of the tranny, held onto it with 6 bolts) has two pins, on on each side, which slide onto the pivot ball. Thats what holds the shifter in place.
