Just wondering what a 92 turbo with +/- 140 000 miles is worth. Red paint job is badly faded, AC is not working and the T-Tops are leaking badly. I did not have a close up look at the car but will do so on Monday.

Any advice on gotchas on the MKIII will be appreciated.

Things that might be going bad that can cost a lot of money to repair for example a BHG etc.

Yep, BHG is very common. Although, with 140k its likely its already been changed. The power steering is also one of the less common problems and is rather expensive to repair.

T-Top is also known as Targa Top is its usd I wouldn't pay more than 1500.00 even that is pricey..........

2k would be my top for that car and only if he got the ac fixed first. my old 90 had the ac go out and i had to keep recharging it but when they tested it never leaked so :wtf: whered the freon go..... targa leak is common so no biggie and gives u something to fix paint, especially red i noticed, fades bad. wax helps but u might need to get the car repainted and then u choose the color! It really all depends on how much u want to spend.

check the spare tire storage in the back hatch, does it grind going into second gear (manual), does the fan work, check your brake rotors for abnormal wear (calipers seize often), hood and hatch support struts, body panels for odd angles (wrecks).

Look for aftermarket intercoolers, manifolds, hardpipes, you can see if he put on a metal head gasket on the drivers front side of the block just under the outer lip of the cylinder head near the #2 runner. You may need a mirror and some carburetor cleaner to get the junk off in order to distinguish what kind of gasket it is.

Check compression.

Look for over sprayed areas around the door jams rear hatch, and engine bay for hidden accidents. Look for targa leaks. Get on ground look under car for oil leaks drive the car to test all funtions of all gauges. Check dip stick for moisture, pull oil cap check for moisture, hell pull the plugs look for oil. Look at inspection sticker and odometer for mileage check. Ask loads of questions of what is the cars history while inspecting it. Ask if its the original engine, and find out about all repairs, and causes.
