Well I need some opinions on a motor that I guess I just bought. It was describe to me as being a fresh new from Toyota short block with 0 miles on it with not a scratch on it. It is a built motor bored .0020 over and only has 40 minutes of run time on it with no load. Just started to make sure it runs on a lift and then the oil drained and filter cut apart and checked.
The shop installing it for me received and told me he didn’t want to accept the motor. I was like WTF? He told me there was a corner on the bottom of the block near a bolt hole that looks as if it cracked off and was rewelded and that the weld did not penetrate and looked like it could pull off. Also the #5 cylinder wall looked scratched and blued like it ran extremely hot. The person I am buying it from told me it just isn’t broken in yet and the corner cracking is common on the newer Toyota casting.
I have pictures of this and wanted some opinions from some of the guys on here if everything looks okay or not. Is this motor just not fully broken in yet? The shop refused delivery on the block but it appears I cannot get a refund on it. I am skeptical of putting the motor in my car and having problems with it. The seller said he would give me in writing a guarantee that the motor is fine. I just don’t want the hassle of putting it in then have something go wrong because of the block and then play the finger pointing game.
Is this a motor you would put in your car?
Thanks for your opinions!
