So my old big screen died last week and i need a new tv. I want an LCD, 40 inch or larger with 1080p. I have up to $1,200 to spend on it.

Im thinking of either the Vizio or Samsung brands.

Where can i go for the best deals? Ive looked at walmart for a Vizio and ive looked at amazon for a Samsung.

I just don't want to go some where and buy it and then realize i could have gotten it cheaper some where else.

It's not just about cheap. Getting one at Costco/Sams can be awesome because it's usually cheap and always has a great return/warranty policy. We bought ours from a local store that only does AV stuff. They have a lot more TVs than a big box store, the staff knows AV gear because that's all they do (they don't sell washers, dryers, CDs, etc) and the warranty is great.

We bought a 50" Samsung plasma 1080p. There are a lot of good deals out there right now on big TVs though. happy hunting.

Which one? That links to a list. FWIW I have no complaints about my Samsung LCD or any of the 3 Panasonic Plasmas in the house, except the tuner went out on the First Plasma, but that was years ago when it was still relatively new

My mom just picked up a 52" (ish) for $400. The same model is still in stores, costco has them for around $3500.

Deals are around, just be resourceful.

ETA: it wasn't a stolen unit- a local business owner went under and had them in his shop.

I paid 1500 for my Aquos 46" 1080p, the new model with the mysterious banding issues resolved. That was just about a year ago now. I would think you'd be able to get a much better TV than a Spectre for 1200...last I checked, my model (LC-46D64U) was about that. If you don't WANT to spend 1200, then look at the budget brands, but for 1200 you can get a great Sharp or Samsung in at least 40+ (46?) inches.

Some deals from slickdeals:

Just received an email. The deal starts 03/10 @ 6AM CT

The email ad syas that the TV will be priced @ $1,499 (before $550 instant savings). On top of this instant saves, it would have EPP and DPA discounts. So, the net price would be less than $949 after all savings.
Sony Bravia KDL-46V4100 46 inch 1080P LCD TV at Amazon for $1199 (or $1139.05 with Gold Box Trick) with Free Enhanced Delivery. No tax for most.
Just got in on this deal at Amazon. This is for the Sony Bravia KDL-46V4100 LCD TV.This is a 46 inch 1080p TV. I know the 5100 models are coming out, but this is a great deal on the 4100 and is an amazing TV if you don't NEED 120 Hz. Price right now is $1199 ($400 off), but I got it down to $1139.05 with the Gold Box Trick, and Enhanced Delivery is Free since it is sold by Amazon. This means that they'll deliver the item through their delivery agent, bring it into your room, unpack it, and hook it up to a signal to make sure it works before you sign for it. I've searched around and haven't found any deals like this on this TV. It is worlds better than the S series that is $50 less on Amazon right now and has the Bravia 2 Engine.

Get it while it's hot. You know how those Amazon prices can change.

So i just ordered the Scepter from Costco.....damn thing was $800 all said and done! Thats $700 for the tv and $100 for taxes and shipping.

I just couldnt pass up a 46 inch 1080p for that much! I have 90 days to return it if i dont like it and it has a 2 year warranty.

Seems win win to me. Heard alot of good reviews and a few ok reviews so we will see.
