Ok so I need a new daily driver and my civic is just not cutting it.........soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow  Anyways I found a nice MKIII at a local dealer tell me what you guys think

1989
blueish gray color?
140k miles
targa
turbo
5speed
AC and all that happy horseshit still works
interior is in good condition
body is in good condition no rust

The dealer has it listed for 1900 but its been that way for almost 2 months so I'm thinking of trying to haggle him down a bit........what do you guys think?

it could be...the most common problems people have after buying a mk3 supra...or any cars of this age IS

BHG
Oil comsumption/leakage
coolant leakage
some sort of gasket leak
electrical problems.

once u know those are all kosher, ur good. get a report

i wish i lived back in chi town..could give u a helping hand dude.

umm the electrical problems are usually minimal like stupid shit. i.e. knock sensor, cps, etc.

always get a gasket set man..just change em, be safe.
most people are so fuckin trigger happy they just go out and start driving without being precautious then come to supraforums to whine about how they just got a bhg/rod knock and dont know why.

Oh believe me, as soon as it breaks down I will be back here whining like a 3rd grader :D

I'm going to do a leakdown and compression test of it, but besides that I don't know what else to really test for in the engine.....

yeah i value my life and my car.....yeah it can be done...but frankly id rather have an awd car and not have to go fuckin 10mph wherever i went! lol....and you cant tell me youve never had the end come out from under you even when you thought you were just touching the gas pedal lol.....

for that price and whatnot yeah great buy...but snow? :nono:

No, I have a 94 Supra TT

I've never owned a MKIII before
Ah, that makes sense.

I'd go for it. If you spin your tires long enough it will heat up the road surface and melt the snow. :p

I would but I'm buying a new snow mobile. So I needed to find a cheaper car than a WRX :)

Thanks for your input guys, I really appreciate it.

when i would fish tail it was cause i did it on purpose :p
if you value your life and your car ALOT, dont drive in the snow, dont drive in the rain, dont drive in any condition except for sunny, warm and 70+ degrees.

just because youd drive an AWD on the snow doesnt ensure your life expectancy rate will raise. Alot of people that drive AWD get this notion that they are totally safe, so they tend to drive like the exact idiots they were in the summer. thus causing accidents. AWD is a helping hand, not a solution.

since it would be his beater and its for 1900 id say go for it. just drive safe like you are supposed to anyways.

First off, that sounds like a great deal... BUT

#1. MK3's aren't famous for being reliable.
#2. MK3's are horrable winter cars for more reasons then just handling like poop in the snow and being a torquey sob. They rust REALLY easy, unlike MKII's and other cars. We both live in WI, you know the deal, I promise you after one Winter of that thing in the snow rust will start popping up in the middle of no where, and the last thing we need now is another mk3 down the drain because of a completely fucked rusted body and frame.

Dont buy it if it will be driven in WI winter, salt is a killer to mk3's.

dude... honestly... that sounds like one of the best deals for an mkiii that i have seen in a while, but you dont want it... you can find an old beater 4x4 truck for the same price that will do you much better... you gotta think of your needs before your wants.... i did the same thing man.. had my maroon mkiii and bought a matching tacoma.. i thought it was cool having 2 toyota's, but atleast one was a truck... so my pointless point im trying to make is... think about what would suit you best in this situation... kinda like all you mkiv owners going through 10 diff turbo's till you find one just right..;) ... hoped that helped..

on second thought.... fuck it.. put some mudders on that purty mkiv... lol jk...
